I've had similar thoughts about USAA. But now that we've 'bundled' our homeowners insurance with auto I don't really know what I'm paying for either of them. Which is what I assume they want.

If you haven't done so already, get a quote from MetLife. We've been with them for a long time now, and they have been terrific. Beat everyone else's rates, and claims - both auto and home - were a breeze.

Anyone go to that World of Wheels thing at the convention center? Thinking of taking son there as he loves all things cars at the moment. Never been there.

I went when I was a kid (we're talking 20 years ago at least). From what I recall I had fun but I vaguely remember there not being a lot of "cool" cars (they had Vettes and the like but nothing like a Ferrari or whatever).

Yea I don't expect much, I really only plan on spending 2-3 hours telling my son to not touch the cars.

I think Bryan Danielson is at World of Wheels for some reason this weekend.

We went to the LA Auto Show a couple months ago without checking the lineup. All of the great marques opted out. And any time we're in DTLA we like to visit this restaurant called Border Grill, which is kind of a legendary place in town (churro tots!); they were closed for renovation. Well, at least Subaru is at the show, they always have rescue dogs at their booth can hang with some pups...... nope.

Getting my final set of tires on the old girl. Last set were getting pretty bald. Even if she makes it to the next set, I’ll be getting a new car as that’ll be over 200k miles on the vibe.

Now if Honda would grow some balls and put a better engine in the HRV, I won’t have any decisions on what to get next.

I have now passed day 17 of my car being at the dealership. There is something causing the battery to drain completely dead every night. Local Subaru ran tests on it and couldn't isolate the problem so they escalated it. The team they escalated to said "pull a fuse each night. Once you wake up with a live battery, you should know where the problem is isolated." There are close to 50 fuses in that panel. If it ended up being one of the last fuses in the box, pulling one a night would take close to two months.

Supposedly Subaru is flying a tech in to look at my car sometime this week. In the meantime, I've been racking miles on a new Crosstrek. It's nice, but would I buy one? Eh, probably not. It's too small compared to my Outback.

I'm waiting to see what they do with the HR-V too, as that was high on my list for potential next vehicle. But I'm not thrilled with the current model using the same 1.8L used in my 2012 Civic.

What are you two looking for in a better engine? More HP and torque?

The 2016-2022 HR-V had the same 1.8L engine (~140hp/~127 lb-ft) as the 9th generation Civics, but the HR-Vs are at least a couple hundred pounds more in weight than the Civics. The HR-V can be a little sluggish because of this, which is a common complaint among its owners.

I am hoping for at least the 2.0L engine that Honda has used in the past, but there has been no indication what their plans are for the new 2023 HR-V yet. And the North American model is different than what has already been announced for Europe.

Yeah... I currently have a 2009 pontiac vibe. Engine is a 1.8L with 132 HP. Weighs in at just under 3000 pounds. And it pretty much has the same body as the HRV. So by all accounts, the HRV is pretty much the same car as the vibe. It can be a little sluggish at time, so if they were able to boost up the engine a bit or at least have it as an option... it's not even an option at the moment. They do that and I'm in, 100%. There are rumors that they're going to for the 2023 version.

If they don't, I'm looking at an upgraded Hyundai Kona or maybe the mazda cx-30. I'm not asking for a crazy engine, just a little bit more than what they got right now.

My wife's 2022 Accord has the 1.5L turbo, which puts out 192 hp/fpt. That has plenty of punch for what it is, and would easily fit in the engine bay of an H-RV.

Do people swap Honda engines? Is that even possible with all the electronic systems in new cars?

Emphasis on turbo, which would resolve their issues with the current HR-V engine.

More turbos everywhere, please.

That'd be more than enough for the HRV... I'd be locked in on that. The hyundai kona has an option that is turbo and 195 hp. They also have the Kona N which has 276 hp. That just seems unnecessary.
and fun

More air means more fuel means less fuel efficiency means fleet efficiency numbers drop means EPA requirements are not met means more expensive to sell the entire fleet.
