I'm not even going to Bad Take Thread you. Just sit and feel shame.

Are you OK? How bad is the damage on the Delorean?

My wife, the car, and I are good, thanks!

It was in afternoon rush traffic on westbound Rt. 30 in Greensburg, coming up on the Wal-Mart turn off. We were sitting at a light doing that deal where you creep up a few feet, stop, creep up, stop. I was stopped and the kid behind me was looking out his side window into the shopping center on the left and drove into us at maybe 4-5 mph. Wasn't a lot but it startled me and my wife pretty good and was hard enough that we're both sore this morning.

It was a super lucky hit. It was a Ford Focus that had a front bumper low enough that it hit square on my rear bumper cover which pushed directly into the rear bumper crash bar. Surface damage but no structural degradation. Scratched the bumper cover on my car and caused some of the paint underneath to flake. He hit one of my tailpipes square on and it punched a perfect hole in his front bumper cover:

Image

If it had been a SUV/Truck it would've rolled right through my tail light structure and into my engine bay. Can't overstate how lucky it was that it was a car low enough to actually engage the crash bumper on my car. You can see the flaking on the bottom left under the Delorean lettering, and some white scuffing to the right of the 'n.' The bowing below the license plate isn't there, it's a trick of light from that camera angle.

Image

They were some teens/early-20s kids from Michigan. My car was hit perfect where the damage was pretty much superficial. Turning it in for a claim wouldn't get me anything other than higher insurance rates and diminished value of the car if an accident is reported to Carfax. I let them have the option of taking it to insurance or not, which I highly doubt they will. Just glad they didn't get their airbags deployed, would have been a completely different story if they had, I think.

This is a shining example of what mikey and I talk about. I'm happy to rant about shitty traffic or bad announcing, but my most expensive non-house possession was crashed into by someone being completely inattentive and I played it completely cool. No value in escalation, there.

Glad you and your wife are OK. And the Delorean as well. I...wouldn't want to have to take that to a body shop.

Glad you, the Mrs., and the car are all fine.

A few months ago I was leaving Autozone and waiting behind a pick up to exit the parking lot. The road gets a lot of traffic and it's not unusual to have to wait several minutes before you can get out. The old guy in the pick up must have got tired of waiting (or was confused, or both), threw it in reverse, and backed into my Wrangler before I could even react. It was a fairly hard hit, but I'd installed an after market steel bumper and it absorbed the blow. The pick up's tail gate was dented pretty bad, but my bumper just had a bit of scuffed paint. My dad was with me when this happened and he's very reactionary (to put it mildly). He was ready to go off on the guy so I made him wait in the Jeep while I checked out the damage. People get too up tight when in a vehicle. I'll never understand that.

Thanks. The DMC is kind of like a Saturn in that the panels hang on the body so you can just swap them out if you mangle one. :thumb:

That's not going to change much, IMO.

It's funny how that happens. About seven years ago I got driven off the road by some 80 year old guy that reeked of alcohol, and while I was driving my wife's car for the interim, we both got rear-ended waiting to turn left onto our street about four days later. Those are my only two collisions in the last 15+ years.

Neat. Did not know that.

Didn't happen to me, but a very good friend of mine was T-boned by a stop-sign runner during the very first week of ownership of his brand-new Volkswagen GTI. I would… not have taken that well.

The panels are not depicted individually here, but this poster shows the frame/tub/body shell assembly pretty clearly:

Looks like the drivers exhaust that punched through his bumper is hanging lower on the Delorean?

At any rate that sucks... Someone hit my sti in a parking lot this past winter caused about 2000 in damage (they drove off). Made me so mad, car still doesnt have 10k miles on it..

What are my options for replacing a lost (spare) key fob for a 2014 jeep Cherokee? Is the dealer basically it?

Shaler is auctioning off a police cruiser. A big car with a push bar on the front is pretty much a lifelong dream of mine. https://municibid.com/Listing/Details/2 ... ge-Charger

I love that it has 8,646 hours of engine idling; about 2/3rd of the total engine run time.

Looks good and not too "cop car" looking. What specs does it have that the regular chargers don't have? Beefed up suspension? More cooling capabilities? Hemi?

Yeah, it's a pretty stout car. I was poking around getting ideas for a winter beater I need to buy in about 6 months and found it. Bad timing for me but someone might get a lot of car for a little money.
