Looks like Ford is introducing an entry level Ranger:
Ford ditched the passenger car segment to focus on its crossovers, SUVs and pickup trucks, and while the decision left a lot of buyers without more affordable models from the Blue Oval, that's going to change.

On the SUV front, a Bronco Sport will complement the Escape, and for pickup truck shoppers, Ford reportedly has a new entry-level model coming. According to an Automotive News report on Sunday, the automaker showed the more affordable pickup to dealers last month and the reaction was extremely positive.

How affordable are we talking? According to dealers, Ford's aiming for a starting price under $20,000. It could end up being the true Ranger successor as the midsize truck isn't exactly the bargain workhorse many may recall. Then again, rumors point to this new truck as something far less ready for off-roading.

Supposedly, this new pickup will sit on the latest Focus platform, which obviously means this won't be a body-on-frame vehicle and operate in a far less rugged manner. Ford declined to comment for this story, but dealers report the automaker wants the pickup to replace the Focus and Fiesta as a gateway to the brand.

Although dealer sources didn't share finer details, it sounds like Ford is ready to hit the ground running and reportedly plans to build 100,000 of the affordable trucks a year at its plant in Hermosillo, Mexico. If all goes according to plan, we should see the tiny pickup debut sometime next year.
No brainer for Ford. They could probably sell most of that initial run for fleet sales.

I can't see anything of value out of that 20K ranger. You're likely getting so bare-bones, it probably wouldn't even compete with a severely used Tacoma, from a consumer perspective.

Their new rangers, are just F150s-lite.

Also, I still haven't found a truck that I like yet and it angers me.

So, if I want a Ford I can get either a station wagon or a truck. I still like cars.

Yea, I want the new body style, and a V8 lol. I'm also likely too particular with what I'm looking for - I don't want a chrome front end, and I want heated seats and steering wheel.

Oh well, I'm not under pressure until May - because if I'm not keeping my car, it's going to need two new tires and stuff for inspection I'd rather just not pay for.

Have a friend that has an older one. It's pretty decent, I agree.

I would still really like an F-150 XLT w/ Sport appearance package. But 2018s are still selling for $33k.

The only frustration I have with Ford, is that they make less V8s, and they need a major update internally. Ram blows them away internally after their refresh, imo.

My wife keeps talking about buying a new SUV. I have only held out buying a new card because she hasn't, so if she does, I may have to follow suit. Especially if Acura makes that Type-S a reality.

Oh man, I looked inside a new Silverado @ the auto show and nearly puked that basic lines of the interior haven't changed in two decades.

In other news, I put a low ball bid on a salvage Expedition for today. We'll see what happens.
On the flip side, there's an Elise with damage on every single fiberglass body panel that I'm watching too. My father's short track car int he 80s was all fiberglass bodied, and I don't want a show car, so :fist:

Yeah, we're trending right now towards both needing new cars within 2-3 years of each other. Which sucks, because I've never had to have two car payments at one time.

V8 or Ecoboost?

Tyler says the top Lotus tuner in the country is in your area, so you have that going for you. Let me know if you need the contact info.

V8, it's an older one.
IAAI (or more appropriately SalvageBid because dealer laws can be stupid).

Lotus tuner nearby, that could be dangerous. They don't even have an auction date yet, so we'll see on the Elise.

I mainly asked because I am interested in obtaining a salvage vehicle as well

I'd say I'm 50/50.
My first purchase was a 2003 Cooper S JCW, other than a hood it didn't really need anything. $2500 shipped to my door. Ran a Time Trials weekend last summer without any hiccups, just new shocks and track pads.
Second purchase was a 2009 base Cooper that I'm building into a racecar. There's some more niggles with it, although if it was my daily I'd probably let some things slide. Biggest issue is the clutch was shot.

If you're willing to get your hands dirty, and don't care about resale it's a good option. People seem to shy away from rebuilds, so you'll get less when you decide to sell. On the other hand, if you're going to drive it until the wheels fall off means it's not worth much when you sell it anyways, and being able to tell people that you were the one that rebuilt it shows a level of commitment to maintenance as well.

I'm in that exact same boat right now with a car.

I REALLY like this car, but it's a flood title car:

https://www.axautos.com/vdp/13731485/Us ... a-GA-30311

It will always have diminished value but it could be a solid DD and mild track car for years. From the looks of it the flood title was a bit of an overreaction to whatever happened to it, but you can never be sure. It's tempting as hell, about $5-7k below market value and looks to be in pristine shape.
