I want to say Hyundai (which includes Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis) just moved into third place for global car sales behind Volkswagen and Toyota. The days when they had to sell cars cheaper than everyone else are over.

I'm certainly not in the market for a full-size SUV, but from subscribing to car mags and Consumer Reports, I do know that the professional-car-reviewer types seem to love the Telluride/Palisade.

I personally would like to see Hyundai bring over the Staria:

Remember when Kias were significantly cheaper than Honda or Toyota? The second trim tier '23 Pilot starts at $42K. That being said, we paid $36 for our EX back in 2020 (that was second tier trim back then, now Honda has 5+ trim tiers).
I’m still going to pay up for any Honda over Kia or Hyundai, without hesitation.

@eddy: I like dodint’s recommendation re: wheels, personally.

We are coming from a Honda and I like the new pilots, but we've had the rare bad experience with our current Honda and won't be going back to them. The warranty is much better on the Kia vs the Honda and you are getting a lot more on the Kia for less regarding the pilot and telluride. The telluride jumped $3000 in models from last year. It's a full work over inside, but it's crazy how expensive cars are right now. We tested out the telluride this weekend, it completely blew me away. I honestly wasn't expecting how nice it was

Let me ask you guys this, so we are looking at the telluride S or EX model. They both only come with 20" wheels. You need to get the base model for the 18" wheels. Would you sacrifice other features to go after the 18" wheels. I priced out cost this morning and it's like a $12 difference for each tire. I was expecting a lot worse. I haven't bought a new car in 15 years. Can you get the base model with 18 and add on different features you like from the other models?
Absolutely not. That's what I was trying to get at. It's not a deal breaker or something I'm sacrificing other things to have.

I casually looked at trucks this AM and they're hitting the high 50's to mid 60's and I'm officially priced out of a truck. So when I am ready to be done with my Ram, I guess I'm going SUV or used Jeep Gladiator and potentially a smaller one if we don't have another kid.

I know one 3rd row SUV price that caught my eye (didn't think it'd be that cheap) was a GMC Acadia. It looked like a mid-high level trim was under $44k. This was just a Facebook targeted ad I saw and didn't look any further into it, FWIW

My plan was to get a 71 El Camino SS and just let the kids sit in the back, maybe bolt a couch with seatbelts, but that didn't go over well with the wife. I've had my current Honda for 15 years and the last 5 have been horrible.

I find it somewhat amusing that I just ripped the 3rd row out of my SUV and now it's in the basement. You can have it if you want, eddy.

Let me circle back with the wife on the El Camino bed, that could work, I'm sure she'll be more excited this time

They're very over-engineered, they have electric fans bolted to the bottom and push-button controls to run them. She'll dig that.

6'4, tacomas, Mavericks, rangers are out of the conversation. My knees hit the dashboard for the most part. For whatever reason, Wranglers I fit in, OKish - but I look past it because I'm a brand guy and I have a lot of good personal memories from parents, my own, life.

Ah, gotcha. I'm 5'9" with a long torso and short legs (usually a 29" inseam on my pants), so that's never been an issue for me. Although there are going to be some vehicles where butt width would be a limiting factor.

I can't imagine a Gladiator is much cheaper than say a Ram 1500?

I see some very low lease prices on trucks these days. That may be the best route for truck ownership. Which reminds me... I should probably schedule another round of undercoating for my Ram 2500 since it's gotta last like 15 more years at those prices

I've seen some Rubicon Gladiators as low as low 40s, which is much more tolerable than a used Ram with 50K+ miles pushing high 40's low 50's.

Gladiator has been my dream truck since it's launched. A kid and my height pushed me into full-size, so I could have him sit behind me with the dumb car seat.

Leasing is pretty much a no-go for me. I will not do it, not now, not ever. I had a friend who leased a Tundra, and while he paid low leases, he had to say goodbye to that truck when his lease pushed over $600 a month for 5 more years if he wanted to do it.

I pay $327 or something like that for my truck now. Going over $400 is basically my nope, not happening, number.

My buddy mentioned the other day his truck payment is over $1000, and he bought used. He was giving me **** earlier in the night for buying that X5. He could pay my X5 off in half a year of his truck payments.

An F-150 Tremor. He got it up near Altoona. It was only a year old or something. I don't know what his terms are. If it's 60+ months he's dumber than he looks.

Got the truck for $34K 9K miles (lease trade-in) OOTD Saturday before covid shut world down. Traded in my Civic for like $16k and had 2-3K down. I think the loan was around 25-26K if that serves me right.

ATM, I could trade ram IN FOR 34K (has 25K miles on it) and it's paid off (low loan payment, means I pay higher) I think in two years. so that's another near 20K down.

I am incredibly concerned when it comes to making sure that I get decent money out of my vehicles when I finally move on from them. I typically, if ever buy a vehicle I won't be able to ever make decent money on.
