Got the truck for $34K 9K miles (lease trade-in) OOTD Saturday before covid shut world down. Traded in my Civic for like $16k and had 2-3K down. I think the loan was around 25-26K if that serves me right.

ATM, I could trade ram IN FOR 34K (has 25K miles on it) and it's paid off (low loan payment, means I pay higher) I think in two years. so that's another near 20K down.

I am incredibly concerned when it comes to making sure that I get decent money out of my vehicles when I finally move on from them. I typically, if ever buy a vehicle I won't be able to ever make decent money on.

Yeah, your high trade residual is a byproduct of the price of new trucks increasing though. We consumers can't have our cake and eat it too now..

Yup. That’s why a full-size is likely out of the picture and I’ll go back to buying a Gladiator because I know I’ll make money on it.

But smiles per gallon is a thing, and I couldn’t get rid of my 12 wrangler. So I’d doubt I’d move on from the gladiator.

You can add your own crossbars, but $360 isn't a bad price. Thule will run you $600+.

REAL ID question.

If I get a new driver's license today, and a REAL ID in 2 years (when they start to enforce it), would I essentially pay the same amount of money for the 4 year period of the drivers license, or would I pay more?

e.g. $30 for license today+ $30 for REAL ID in 2025 (which would both expire in 2027) vs $60 for REAL ID today?

The only reason I ask is my wife's license is up on Wednesday and she somehow is ineligible to apply for the REAL ID online. So should she go through the rig amoral of getting the REAL ID in person now or just delay that ish.

I want to say the Real ID always costs $60 because getting a Real ID is also a license renewal no matter how much time remains on the current license. The expiration date of the Real ID will be four years plus any time remaining on the current license. So if you wait until 2025, you will pay $30 now and $60 in 2025, but the license you get in 2025 shouldn't expire until 2031 because it will include the two years remaining on the 2023 license at that time.

So you don't "lose out" on the renewal fee then,it sounds like the 2 years that will remain on her normal license when she gets the REAL ID will be tacked on to the 4 year renewal.

The expiration date of the initial REAL ID product will include any time remaining on your current license or ID card, plus an additional four years, unless you are over 65 and have a two-year license.

This expiration date structure means that you won’t “lose” time that you've already paid for. After the initial REAL ID product expires, the customer will pay no additional fee, beyond regular renewal fees, to renew a REAL ID product.

I stopped into Monroeville Kia when I tested the telluride. Does anyone have any experience with a different Kia dealership around Pittsburgh? Does it make sense to call each dealer and give them the details of what we are looking for to see what they can work with or will it be the same everywhere? It's been a while since I've purchased a new vehicle, so am trying to cover all bases

I ended up doing a lot of my own research and waited for the Truck with my exact specifications to be available. I didn't trust that a salesperson would allow me to not settle and compromise myself because they wanted to move a car. That being said, I did talk to quite a few dealerships, all seemed helpful (some more than others). Might be worth trying, worst that happens is they call you repeatedly until you tell them to stop lol.

I can't speak for Kia or Pittsburgh dealerships, but calling around certainly helped us get my wife's car back in November 2021. Everywhere had low inventory, so it was tough finding base model Accords. But our local dealership miraculously had one the moment we called - and had 3 people call about it after we put a deposit on it over the phone. I think inventories are better now, but it can't hurt to call around. Be prepared to get multiple follow up calls though.

I've called 6 different dealers and it may be the most annoying thing in the world, hopefully it plays out. It's crazy how expensive it is finding a vehicle with 7/8 passenger capacity. All quite different than 15 years ago when you could get a new van for $30,000.

Hit a pothole last week, a real car smasher. Maybe 3' wide and 4" deep. Was obscured by traffic in front of me until the last moment, and then I had no chance to react and *ka-goozh* Right front tire was cut and went down overnight. I had hit debris on the freeway about 14 months ago, and had been driving with a mismatched tire since then, so now with two tires out this was my chance to replace all four.

Comedy ensued. Pirelli no longer makes tires that fit my car, so it was on to Plan B. Bridgestones. One of the four tires would be free (since I was returning to the same shop and they have a pothole replacement guarantee thing), and it still totted up to almost $800. Yeehaw.

Because I've had a minivan for the last 15 years and now this is our time to do something for us and we don't want another minivan, especially when they cost roughly the same as the SUV. Kids are also older and I don't want to be cruising in a minivan in 8 years when they aren't here.and we only have 5 in family, but it seems like we always have 7 in vehicle, so 8 will be welcome

Honda Odyssey is roughly $2000 cheaper than the telluride we are looking at. Doesn't make sense for me
