Just bought the wife a new TLX. There are too many bells and whistles for me. I guess I’m getting old.

I'm still undecided on whether or not I'll get one.

My Mom took her Honda Pilot to Smail Honda in Greensburg yesterday. She wanted her navigation maps upgraded. When she got there they asked her where her thumbdrive is with the maps on it. She had no idea what they were talking about. Supposedly they don't have the ability to update that stuff with their dealership computers. They had to send a tech home to his personal computer to get a flash drive and download the maps.
WTF?

This deal was just too good. And a new car is a new car, right? Zero miles is zero milesYou didn't want to wait for the new model coming out in a few months?Just bought the wife a new TLX. There are too many bells and whistles for me. I guess I’m getting old.

What year Pilot? They have used physical CDs for the maps (that must remain in the unit) for years, unless that recently changed.

I assume 2018 or newer, I don't know, they are appliances that all look the same to me. She bought it since I moved back to PA.What year Pilot? They have used physical CDs for the maps (that must remain in the unit) for years, unless that recently changed.
I *think* BMW's deal now is you pay for the maps as a subscription and they deliver them OTA on a schedule. I just use Google Navigation and skip all of those shenanigans.

I have the 2012 maps in my car, and the only reason I'd like to update them is because I know the routing behavior has changed in one of the more recent ones. Not paying $100 for it, though.

That's what I like about the DVD based systems. Most of the DVDs are on eBay for cheap. That's what I did with my Dodge's and early 2000s BMWs.

I found a torrent of the 2012 one, so that's how I have it.

Android auto/apple car play navigation via Google maps or Waze is way better than any car brand navigation IMO.

Yeah, that's what our 2020 Pilot EX has. It's fantastic, and never need to update a map again.Android auto/apple car play navigation via Google maps or Waze is way better than any car brand navigation IMO.

I can relate to that. I like driving my 60's cars. Very few bells and whistles to remember, All I got is a light switch, wiper switch, radio on off knob and a cigarette lighter. Sometimes the heater and defroster stuff confuses me.Just bought the wife a new TLX. There are too many bells and whistles for me. I guess I’m getting old.

I priced out a new TLX A-Spec, and it came in at just under $48k, which means the Type-S that I actually want is definitely going to run mid-$50k. That’s too bad.

What's your current Acura worth as a trade in?I priced out a new TLX A-Spec, and it came in at just under $48k, which means the Type-S that I actually want is definitely going to run mid-$50k. That’s too bad.

KBB says $7-8k trade in and $9-11k private, but I’ve seen them go for $14-16k with higher mileage. My car is in excellent condition and under 78k miles. And honestly, I’d probably keep it even if I bought a new car. What's your current Acura worth as a trade in?I priced out a new TLX A-Spec, and it came in at just under $48k, which means the Type-S that I actually want is definitely going to run mid-$50k. I highsided/beached our MINI on a farm the other day, had to get out and have my wife gently press on the gas while I lifted up the rear of the car.
That's the second time that's happened in our ownership. The other is when I unevenly backed it off of a trailer.

That she didn’t give you a face full of mud Cousin Vinny style seriously alters my opinion of her.I highsided/beached our MINI on a farm the other day, had to get out and have my wife gently press on the gas while I lifted up the rear of the car.

I'm not that big a fan of sedans, but I've been giving some thought to getting an Alfa Giulia. Every driving test I've seen of it gives it huge thumbs up, made several car-of-the-year lists and whatnot, and I think it's drop dead sexy. Did a quick Gooling and found that a 2-year old upper trim level model can be had for a suspiciously low number. So I hopped on CarMax to see if there were any near me.
Not a single Alfa in inventory in the entire United States. More Googling. Turns out, their long-term reliability is so wonky that the warranty company that CarMax works with won't cover them.
It's not a market segment that I follow, so I was not even broadly aware of such issues. I had hoped that when Alfa returned to the US they'd have their historical bad stuff sorted. Too bad.
