I just read an article that said the average new car price is $48K, 30% higher than it was in March 2020. Dealerships have low inventory still, with mostly top tier trim levels. Like who is going to pay $115K for a Grand Wagoneer?

@RonnieFranchise you could probably kick the tires on an Acura MDX or RDX if you want a sporty SUV.

How is that Acura touchpad thing that they use? It seems weird to me

I’m really hoping my next new car doesn’t have the auto-stop “feature” that turns the car off at stop lights etc. I’m in my wife’s car today and tomorrow at a conference, and I’ve already forgot to turn it off a couple of times in traffic. That can’t be good for the starter. At least hers can be shut off (every time you start the car).

They are supposed to have a beefier starter in vehicles with that have that "feature". But still, if you are in traffic and that thing is cycling 20+ times, that adds up versus a normal vehicle that starts once

I wonder how many miles it had on it when parked, because those slant-six engines had a reputation of being darn near indestructible.

I've been reading his thread since he bought it 6 months ago. Maybe 60K? Cars of the day making it to 100K were not common.

It's the first thing I shut off when I get in either my wife's or my car. Hate it. Hate it. Hate it.

Sucks it can't be permanently turned off without some aftermarket modifications.

I might be buying a second vehicle. I called Erie, my auto insurance provider, and asked how much my rates would increase. It will jump a little over $500. Does that sound like a lot? The vehicle I'd be adding is a 2016 Subaru Outback, so it's not like I'm adding anything fancy. And, obviously, I can only drive one vehicle at a time.

Seems high to me. For 4 drivers, two of whom are early 20s, and four vehicles, two of which are newer than the Outback, we're at $1755/6 mos. We've been with Allstate for years. Somehow our policy actually shows more discounts than premium.

I'm paying $850 now for my Jeep (a 2013 Wrangler). I was expecting a jump, but not $500. FWIW, here are my current specs before adding the car.
Liability Protection
Bodily Injury $1,000,000 per person/ $1,000,000 per accident 105.00
Property Damage $100,000 per accident 141.00
First Party Benefits
Medical Expense $10,000 25.00
Income Loss $1,000/Month / $15,000 Maximum 4.00
Accidental Death $5,000 1.00
Funeral Benefit $2,500 1.00

Uninsured Motorists Bodily Injury $1,000,000 per person/$1,000,000 per accident-Stacked 6.00
Underinsured Motorists Bodily Injury $1,000,000 per person/$1,000,000 per accident-Stacked 56.00

Physical Damage
Comprehensive - $50 deductible * 352.00
Collision - $500 deductible 148.00
Optional Coverages
Roadside Service INCL
Total 10.00
Annual Premium per Vehicle $ 849.00
I suppose upping the deductible on my comprehensive could save me a few pennies.

For one car you're paying $850? That seems absurd? I have Progressive and I have 3 vehicles on it - and I pay $876...but I have 3 vehicles and one is a 2012 wrangler.

Yep. $850. No accidents. No claims. No tickets. And I drive around 10K miles per year and am not considered a "daily driver" because I work from home and don't commute to a job.

We have Erie and pay like 1200 a year for two vehicles
with two drivers with high end coverage...2023 outback and a 2024 Crosstrek.

The 2024 jumped it up a bit cause it's not in the system yet cause it's new and they have no data on it. Said it should drop once data is available.

We have both homeowners and auto through Erie so I'm assuming we get discounts etc.

They must like you. I did the online quote nd it gave me a price of $1044 for my Jeep and the Outback. Before adding on the Subaru, it was coming in at a cool $600ish. That's still less than Erie wants to charge me though. And the quote I got from Progressive on my homeowners insurance is less than HALF what I'm paying Erie. I thought it was a 6 month rate at first but, nope, it's for the year.

I had MetLife, which is now Farmer’s, and they continue to beat everyone else’s rate in town.

For some reason the quotes I get online from Farmer's are nuts. Like 50% more than I'm paying now.

I wonder if the quotes would be cheaper if you contacted an agent directly instead of using the online system? They may be able to find you discounts.

They have an office in town. I might have to swing by next week and get a more accurate quote.

I have an agent that price shops every single year.
