Saab is out of business and Alfa is owned by Chrysler. Like I said, no practical use. ;)

I am buying a Saab in the morning, though.

Bah, it was Lancia and not Alfa.

I knew it was something Italian.

Weenie, there’s one on the side of the road here for sale for 65k. I have zero idea how much they’re actually worth, but you could buy it tomorrow.
I got a Big Bend with the midpackage (remote start, heated seats...you know, the necessities) for like $42k. Dealer promised MSRP so I ain't paying a cent more

The 2.3L is an inline 4.

V4s don't work in practice because the harmonics don't work with such a short crankshaft.

thanks tif :slug:

I read a blurb about how Chevy was probably going to make the 4.3L V6 the base engine for the Silverado again. Evidently, the base engine is a turbo 4 cylinder. I know it's probably more torquey or whatever than that six cylinder. But yikes buying a full size truck with a four banger in it.
Had a rental explorer last month with a turbo 4. It was junk. Nowhere near my wife’s non turbo 6 cyl Flex imo. Sounded and felt like a Corolla.
The explorers are a 2.3 (single) turbo I believe.

The F150s have a 2.7 twin turbo but it's a V6. Must be some tiiiny cylinders.

On April 21 I talked to a Ford chat rep (on a typical scheduling day) and found out my Bronco was scheduled for production on June 13

I JUST got the email from ford. thanks for sending that a month and a half late you jabronis
Can you remind me what specs you ordered and when? I'm tying with the idea of ordering when the banks open again in August. The price really isn't bad compared to most of the market right now. Of course, they'll probably raise the price of 23s $5K or more.

Orange (NOT school bus yellow) 4 door Big Bend with mid tier package, 2.3 L, soft top. Ordered in mid Feb but thankfully the specs I ordered didn’t have any bottlenecks with production (for example a 4 door is more likely to get built sooner than a 2 door)

I dropped my car off at the body shop to be fixed from the wreck in April. I guess Enterprise was short on cars because this is what they gave me for my "midsize" rental:

guess I won't be getting Prius-type mileage for the next few weeks.

They tried to put me in a 15 passenger van when I requested a minivan in Florida

Finally ended up in an outback wagon that barely fit all our sht. I immediately thought of Shyster when that happened

Something similar happened to my wife when her 5-series got t-boned. They gave us a Challenger. Which is fun, but it was Wisconsin in late fall. Turns out it wouldn't drive on the snow at all unless you manually activated some TCS stuff. Had to come home from work and help her back it out of the driveway.

I used to rent cars at LGA because our plant was in an industrial area of Queens not easily accessible to public transportation. Every damn time I picked up my car the person said "Mr. Franchise, we're pleased that we've been able to upgrade you to a Crown Victoria (or similarly huge battleship sized sedan, this was 2005-ish). Yeah thanks, just what I want in New York City for a week. What you really mean is nobody else wants it and this is all you have left.

Mine too was a sold as an "upgrade". Just because you charge more doesn't mean I want it.

Thanks for the info. I'd be looking at something similar. Probably Base model though. Good to know I likely wouldn't be waiting a year+ if I decide to order.

If you get one, don’t be a clown and order a Flyers orange one like MIMH. Or just don’t get one, period.

A whole YouTube channel devoted to a set of double speed bumps in Fresno. Some of these sound expensive.

It's like Excitebike, but for real. It's always the second bump that gets you.

I'd welcome a hybrid tow vehicle, but not a full EV. If it can EV while I'm just commuting around and use gas to get long trip range that's a pretty great solution. I have to buy a new tow vehicle next year so I'm starting to watch the space much more closely.
How much do you have to tow?

Up to 7,000lbs.

I'm selling my current trailer this week (7,000lb) and my tow vehicle next week (18,000lb tow rating).
Next year when I need the capability again we're buying a smaller footprint trailer (shorter, easier to maneuver, and out of the wind) that can be towed with an SUV and/or RV. So we're looking at stuff like Range Rover, Porsche Cayenne, Sequoia, Durango, etc.

I always buy cars used, I think it's silly to take the depreciation hit on a new car. But I don't trust used EV/hybrid vehicles due to the exorbitant battery replacement costs. So I'm going to spend the next year trying to better understand the reality of all of that so I can make an informed decision next spring.

Ah... okay. I know a lot of smaller EV vehicles are rated in the 2-5000 lb range.

As to the battery replacements: I think Kia and/or Hyundai have like 10 year 100,000 mile warrantees on their batteries. Might want to take a look at the warrantees on some of those vehicles and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Indeed, lots to learn. I forget who it was, maybe the Leaf, but one company announced they were done making replacement batteries. There was a huge backlash and they walked it back, but still, gives me a bit of anxiety.

If this wacky market crashes and prices fall I might just buy new anyway. We'll see. I just know that I'm not spending over $40k for a utility vehicle.

All that said, I'm trying to warm my wife up to going full EV for her commuter car. Her new job is a 15-minute drive away and she rarely, if ever, leaves Westmoreland/Allegheny county on her own. She doesn't like driving long trips by herself. She is the perfect user for a full EV.

I'm purchasing a PHEV here this fall. Small SUV. Our next car will be a full EV commuter car for sure.
