A whole YouTube channel devoted to a set of double speed bumps in Fresno. Some of these sound expensive.

I was gonna quote about how airborne the back end of that SUV was at 2:22, but I think the car was completely in the air at 2:50

For towing, theres also a difference between being able to tow 5-7k lbs and actually towing the 7k lbs.

For example, your payload can't exceed a certain weight and you won't be able to have literally anything other than yourself in the tow rig.

It's why it's nice to have a 3/4 ton truck to tow a camper. You don't have to worry about any of that, can take a full bed of firewood camping, and still drive the speed limit.

Yup. My van will be missed in that regard. It could drag a house across the county if I asked it to.

Yeah. So while the lightning could tow my camper... That's all it'd tow. And I'd know it's back there. And when I'm taking the 6-8% inclines to climb over the central PA mountains, I'm a liability. With my 6.7 Ram its like nothing has even changed.

That's why the Sequoia is on my list. An SUV with a 10,000 towing capacity.

I just watched a Ford Expedition Max tow a giant Robalo center console boat right past my house. It didn't look it had an issue with that load.

Lowest for a base model is $50k. For me at that price, might as well go full redneck

Nah, buy it used. You can get a decent one 4-5 years old for $30K or lower.

Yeah, I was referring to the 2008 model. Like I said in the EV discussion, I don't buy new cars.

I have only ever bought new cars since 2003, and I'm still not sure that I'd change my ways. That said, prices are so absurd that I don't know if I'll ever even have to worry about that decision again.

Having it lose 25% of its value the moment the ink is dry makes no sense on any level, for me. If I look hard enough I'll find a gently used version with the same option set.

That said, the wife and I have talked about leasing her next vehicle.

I'm planning to buy new due to the current market and the tax rebate on the EV vehicle.

But yeah, if it weren't for those two things, I'd never buy new.

I guess if I could find one with ultra low mileage - as in, under 5k miles - I may be convinced.

Used Type-S's are going up in price, lol. This is so backwards. $60k... GTFO.

is there still a tax rebate on EV vehicles? is that Fed or State level? 10 years ago or so GA had a ridiculous credit for EV vehicles. Tesla wasn't really a thing yet but Nissan Leafs were EVERYWHERE because after the credit, the final cost was under $10k :scared:

Yeah, current market excepted.

Much like securities, if I were to buy-in the entire new car market would collapse a week later.

In that case, I need somebody to buy a brand new vehicle, along with a number of stocks, at current value. Take one for the team.

Up to 7.5K depending on the battery size from the fed. They do it for a certain number of each model. Once the allotment is up, the rebate is done. For instance: tesla is done. RAV4 Prime is on it's way to being done. Just depends.

My wife's expy max is rated at 6k. I don't know if it could handle much more than that. The max row on an expy is 9k with a different rear end.

I was always a new car or CPO. I'm not looking at it unless it has an amazing extended warranty that covers everything, which is weird considering how often I was cycling through vehicles. Not at the same pace that dodint goes through cars, but close. But with the way prices are right now, there is nothing on my radar. Even if prices weren't insane, I'm surprisingly content with my Outback.

That said, the most recent car I bought had zero warranty and parts for it are few and very far between. At some point I'm sure that I'll have to learn how to turn a wrench or make friends with a mechanic who wants to work on something that he hasn't seen before.

Speaking of mechanics, my car is in for an oil change and some weird whining noise - which I suspect is the alternator. I noticed that they charge a 3% CC fee for any invoice over $200. Sucks, but I like this shop, and having struggled to find a decent one, think I'll have to just live with it. They are very reasonable with their fees, so I guess it's a little offset.

If we bought cars other than Hondas, we would certainly entertain looking at newer used cars. Honda cars, even prior to COVID, don't see a big depreciation. Coupled with Honda Financing's low APRs for 60 month loans (.9 to 1.9% usually), it makes more sense for us to go new. I remember looking at 2016-17 Pilots when we bought our '20 in July of that year, and the prices were within $5000 of a new model. Add in the 4-5% APR for a loan, and it makes more sense to go with a new car. At least it did then - who knows now. We couldn't find a decently priced used Accord in our area when we were looking back in November.

Honda scaled back their financing, so you can really only get those great sub 2% rates on specific models/builds now.

No, but I'm also not 85 years old. For big repairs I guess I could write a check, but small ones? Nah, the rewards programs on my cards will offset some of it anyway.
