Subaru's is so much simpler. I think all I had to do was turn key, hold down the front passenger window switch for 5 seconds, hold it up for 5 seconds, then push it back down again.

I'm tempted:
although I'm not crazy about the wheels.
It the big brother of the Barracuda.

Emphasis on "big." That trunk lid looks like you could land a helicopter on there.

The police version of that car, the 1969 Polara Pursuit, was the best cop car ever...

Yes, a '69, they went to full "loop bumper" in '70. One downside is it's a 383 and not the 440.'69?
Cars & Bikes, Driving & Riding
Much more appropriate wheel covers on this.
Cars & Bikes, Driving & Riding
The 440 will bolt right up and get 8mpg.
Cars & Bikes, Driving & Riding
But it would sound really good getting those (at most) 8mpg. I remember the people across the street from us getting a new '74 New Yorker and they said it got 7mpg. I think that was when you could only buy gas every other day based on the digit or letter that your license plate ended with.

When I was in high school I tried to buy a 72 Charger. It also had a 383 and I sourced a 440 for it, but the deal never came together.

Way too efficient. I'd buy a challenger if all I wanted was power.

Spend the extra money and buy a crate Hellcat motor.

True dat. A Hellcat would also give the experience closest to a old muscle car: totally awesome so long as you only need to drive in straight lines.

That Hellcat is two times anything before. A guy I was working with had one and said he didn't get a manual because the clutches die too fast. No manual = no fun.True dat. I had my car in for inspection and found out since I hadn't driven 5K miles in the last year it was exempt from emissions. I didn't know that was such a thing.
Cars & Bikes, Driving & Riding
Huh. Neither did I.
Do they actually still do any testing to check emissions? My understanding (which could be wrong) is that for cars that have OBD-II emissions (i.e. just about every car since 1996), the test is just querying the car's own onboard computer whether there's anything wrong with the emissions-control system. If so, that hardly seems something worthy of the forty-odd dollars the "test" runs.

Yeah, my mum lucks out with that, too. Her daily commute to work is only 6 miles round trip, so she hasn't had emission inspections in about 10 years.

My wife and I both qualify for that, since we take the train to work.

I don't think so and I've never seen them do one in PA. In GA there isn't inspection but emissions around Atlanta so they have special shops that just do the testing. They would put a device in your tailpipe and take a reading.Huh. Neither did I.

Perhaps it depends on the mechanic. I was exempt for a few years when my commute to work was 2.5 miles. My mechanic would run the test and tell me he kept getting a gas cap warning (which I would see on the dash from time to time in the summer) and if I would ever go over the 5K limit, I would need to get it fixed.I don't think so and I've never seen them do one in PA. I found a web tool that says what sort of test is required in Pennsylvania. For example, my 2015 car in Allegheny County gets an "Onboard Diagnostics and Gas Cap Check." But if I had a 1995 car, the test is "Two Speed Idle, Visual Check and Gas Cap Check."
