Has anyone gone to traffic court to find the cop not show up? I was told that always happened...but I've never known anyone to get out of a ticket that way.
Not me personally, but one time I got a fix-it ticket (was pulled over for an expired registration, and I literally had all my paperwork for my DMV appointment later that same day sitting on the passenger seat) I appeared to show that I had, indeed, fixed it. Each of the four people in front of me had citations dismissed because the officer was a no-show. I don't recall if they were all the same officer or what the deal was, but I was bemused.

One time the cop didn't show to mine because he came upon a bad accident like a mile away from the MDJ office. The MDJ was a friend of my grandfather's and let me off anyway.

It's worth reiterating that a DUI is a criminal charge and not a traffic violation.

That man should've played the lottery.

I'd love one of those portable lifts, but it's simply not worth the cost to me.
Once I got it set up it's pretty awesome. I read a bunch of articles and watched their videos before it got here and I never once noticed that it didn't include the hydraulic fluid in the shipment, so it ended up taking two days to setup. It gets high enough that there is about six inches between my chest and the frame when I"m on a creeper. A dedicated two post life would've only gotten me about another 10" because of the aforementioned i-beam so I'm really happy with the compromise.

Obvious downside is that you can't get under the car from the sides; but you can use the lifts turned the other way if you have to if your project requires it. Though releasing the safety bars would be decidedly more difficult in that configuration.

Did an oil change and transmission fluid change last night. Also found an axle seal that will need to be replaced soon, ordered the parts last night.

So many projects to do before I take it to Kentucky in a month. Currently trying to figure out why Reverse and First gears get super stiff after the transmission warms up. Hoping it was because the level was low from the axle leak.

Very nice. I don't think the limitation of access from the side is too big a deal, honestly; I would prefer having unobstructed access to the front and rear, as there's much more that you could possibly need to access compared to the sides. How quickly does it get up to that height? I may get a truck jack just to be able to get the entire rear end off the ground for when I do brake or wheel work. It's not much, but it would cut down on time and also allow me to actually do the brakes on my wife's CR-V.

I ordered the 12VDC model, can be lifted with a car battery (great for the track) or one of those portable battery jumpers. It goes up quick, about 10-15 seconds. The 110VAC model takes about twice as long but can be plugged in to a regular outlet.

And yeah, the side access isn't the end of the world. It's just the biggest downside compared to a two post lift (which has side access issues of its own/problems with opening car doors).

Horrible week for car stuff for me. Broke the L-tube that connects my idle control valve to the air intake boot on my daily driver so now it whistles like a nose with a dry nostril and then goes into limp mode after a few minutes. Argh.

Also, the DMC needs a new clutch. Going to have to take it to Akron and have a specialist work on it.

Might ride the motorcycle to work. Took the DMC today but it has antique tags so technically I can only do that once a week.

I can still drive the BMW, but it sounds awful in limp mode. BUT, my commute is horseshit and I never get over 30mph anyway so it probably wouldn't matter.

There's zero chance that I will be replacing the plugs and igniters in my car when the time comes. I have no idea how I would even access the rear ones based on how far deep in the engine bay it sits.
This is nice:

This also works:

A basic swivel also works as well.

I have a swivel socket that I could use, but no thanks. It’s one of the areas I have no issues paying somebody else to do.

The N54 V8 I had in the 650i looked like a real pain in the ass because of the body overhanging the back of the motor. When the plugs started going bad I replaced the front few and it fixed my misfire issue, then I traded the car in...

My steering wheel is some sort of rubbery substance that seems to melt in the summer and if I accidentally drag my pants across it I’ll get black marks on my pants

Is there some sort of protectant I can put on the steering wheel or should I just cover it with something?

I think I'm at the point in my life where a lease makes sense for me. My wife drives 12 miles round trip to work. It drives me nuts paying for repairs on vehicles. And every car I've ever owned was traded in at even up (or worse).

That said.

How the F do you go about negotiating a lease? Is any car on the dealer lot lease-able? How do I calculate what my lease payment will be when I go and say "I want this one"?

Sent the Delorean to Akron to get the clutch replaced (jah, mikey) and now I'm replacing the whole AC system as well.

Classic car ownership for the lulz.

A lease is just one of the financing options they give you when you go buy a new car. They'll probably lay out several options, but tell them you're looking to lease and they'll give you those numbers. Not much to negotiate there, probably something on your trade-in.

Afaik, any new car on the lot is eligible for a lease.

Auto trader forums. I haven’t done it yet but there are countless people asking reps for the national lease deals and you can figure out all the calculations yourself. You can start by looking up mean values from TrueCar, and then autotrader dudes will tell you what the various finance companies are providing for residuals and money factors. Throw it all in an Excel sheet and you’re set.
I’ve heard the story that first you haggle the price of the car (because it has a value to let you take it home) and then begin the work on lease terms.

See, everything I read said exactly opposite. Keep the "I want to lease" in the back pocket. Negotiate on price first. But, the main goal is to lower my monthly payment at the end of the day, so I don't want to be suckered into a higher-than-necessary payment.

Thanks, I came across this last night. It seems to be the best way to go about it. That will let me know going in a price point that I need to be to get my payment where I want it.

To be fair, I've never gone looking around for leases. They've always been presented to me as one of the options with longer (or shorter) payment terms...

I think they offered my wife and I 84 months to pay off a $24K Honda Accord. That didn't make much sense to me tbh.

Does Vintage Air make a system that would fit the Delorean? I've seen Jay Leno repeatedly laud that company and say that their AC stuff is better than the factory originals.

Went to get Mazda inspected today. Could not find the stupid registration credential. Gave it to them to work a recall and meanwhile logged in to Penndot to order a duplicate.

Uhhhhhh..... dumbass your registration has been expired since October. Did not get pulled over fortunately.
