TIL that there are speed-enforcing cameras in the Bronx.

Oh, did your trip to the zoo a few weeks ago just get a little more expensive? :pop:

$50 more expensive.

I didn't realize that a) it was a school zone (after school hours), and b) the speed limit was 25. I was going 38 to catch the light, so I deserved it.

Heading into Baltimore was similar. They had signs everywhere stating as such. It was a 6-8ish mile stretch of 55 mph speed limit and typically on a busy highway over that stretch of mileage you get one or two psychos zooming by you. Not there. Everyone was coasting along at 55-60.

I was basically the only car on the road at the time, so I had no context clues to help with the area. It's literally a 1/4 mile stretch of road once you exit the Cross Bronx Expressway to make a left turn to hit up I95. Ah well, now I know for future visits.

The irony is that it was literally the only time during our entire trip while in the Bronx that I was able to go above 20mph.

I really like the exterior shots, but that interior is trash, just like Tesla’s.

I read that the embargo for the 2023 Honda HR-V is to be lifted on June 6th. A few dealers have start listing inventory on their sites. I took a couple of the VINs and put them into a VIN decoder to see what it would tell me (if anything).

All the VINs I have found say the engine model is K20Z5, even though that engine was only used in the 2007-2010 Civic Si, so I'm guessing it is just an error in the VIN system. Most likely it is the K20C2 (used in the 2022 Civic), or a variation of it, since the HR-V engine has been mentioned to be a 2.0L with 158 hp/138 lb-ft power/torque. The outgoing model has a R18Z9 engine, a 1.8L rated at 139 hp/128 lb-ft.

The 2023 model is now based on the same platform as the Civic, so it will be larger than the outgoing model, which was based on the Fit platform. The outgoing 2022 EX-L AWD model has a curb weight of 3142 lbs. For comparison, the 2020 Fit EX-L has a curb weight of 2648 lbs. So the outgoing HR-V was ~500 lbs. heavier than the "car" it shared a platform with. The VIN decoder doesn't specify the curb weight, but it says the 2023 has a "Class 1C" rating, which is 4001-5000 lbs (so probably wrong). For comparison, the 2022 Civic Sport (which uses the K20C2) is 2935 lbs, and listed in the "Class 1B" range. So I would expect the 2023 HR-V to come in around 3500-3600 lbs.

Why am I mentioning all this? The 2016-2022 HR-V was a dog, very under-performing. Honda has said this about the 2023 model: "New HR-V will be more refined, confident and fun-to-drive with substantially improved dynamics and powertrain responsiveness". I'm not so sure the new model will be any less of a dog. When the CR-V, which is also based on the Civic platform, was a non-turbo, it used a K24W9 engine, a 2.4L rated at 185 hp/181 lb-ft. So I'm not sure how just slapping the K20C2 engine used in the 2022 Civic into a larger vehicle will give "substantially improved powertrain responsiveness".

But I guess we will see in a few days, as I am curious to how it actually performs, not just how it looks on paper.

Saw my first Hyundai Ioniq 5 in person in my parking garage. I can understand that the wedgy styling is probably going to be a love-it-or-hate-it proposition, but I like it, and I also like the size of the car. They want to call it a crossover or whatever, but it's barely larger or higher than my hatchback. I'm not going to be car shopping for a couple years, but if I decided to go electric, the Ioniq 5 would be my choice.

I read a blurb about how Chevy was probably going to make the 4.3L V6 the base engine for the Silverado again. Evidently, the base engine is a turbo 4 cylinder. I know it's probably more torquey or whatever than that six cylinder. But yikes buying a full size truck with a four banger in it.

Turbo vehicles generally aren’t torquey…

After seeing all the reviews for the new Sportage, I stopped into the local Kia and put my name on the list for a PHEV. Their website says they’ll be available in July, and to quote the Kia guy, “yeah… available to who?”

Either way, my name is first on the list for one here. Hope they actually do start coming around in July/August. If not, it’ll be a happy little birthday present to me in November or something close to that.

Had a rental explorer last month with a turbo 4. It was junk. Nowhere near my wife’s non turbo 6 cyl Flex imo. Sounded and felt like a Corolla.

Weenie, there’s one on the side of the road here for sale for 65k. I have zero idea how much they’re actually worth, but you could buy it tomorrow.

The 2.3L is an inline 4.

V4s don't work in practice because the harmonics don't work with such a short crankshaft.

But if there were someone that would pridefully use a short crank it would be you, MIMH.

Some companies have used V4s, though. I want to say Saab and Alfa Romeo?

One could argue that flat-fours are just V4s with a reeeeally wide bank angle.
