Some heater core repairs call for removal of the dash, but can be done without that. I know that my old Taurus called for something like 8+ hours of shop time to remove the dash and replace the core, but there were workarounds that were "only" a few hours.

Also consider doing a back flush of the core. At worst, it'll take about $10 in parts and maybe an hour of work. Might save some money and time.

I can't do that sort work anymore so I'm at the mercy of the garage down the street. So maybe it's just a clog.

Realized tonight that the excessive fogging up of my windows in the last week is probably due to bad heater core. It's a 7 hour job in the shop. The whole front dash has to be pulled out. I may just get it bypassed and suffer w/o heat for now.
I had a Volvo S40 that had a similar problem. Found out the drain tubes in the sunroof were clogged, causing the head pressure to pop one of the tubes out of an elbow and spilling all the water under my carpet. It sat there on the flooring of the car which eventually led to a musty smell and the fogging you mentioned.

That was a fun repair. It ultimately caused the headliner glue to fail. Had the inside of my car looking like a truck bed.

I'd bet on it being between $50-70k, too. Totally insane.

I really think this is going to be the year of a truck for me. I'm annoyed at our small cars and the CX-5 having dick all for room if you're over six feet tall.

I've been finding some decent F150s and Rams at the 32K mark used.

Solomon in Brownsville has a beautiful 2018 f150 at $33,500. Black sport model. I want it so badly.. Was crunching numbers. I CAN afford it but... I shouldn't..

I was going to make fun of you for daring to have two of them, but I'm actively hunting a second one myself.

I'm in a weird place right now with car shopping. I'm either going to get a performance minded MINI, or something I can compete in One Lap of America with in 2021. Right now I'm looking at E63 BMW M6s and Gen2 Dodge Vipers. So I'm cross shopping cars that are priced a factor of 10 apart, and 3x the horsepower.

I drove my 650i in the winter and it is the same chassis, it did well. On really bad weather days I would just drive the van. The M6 has a reduced power mode where it only puts down 400 horsepower, so it shouldn't be an issue...

Yeah, lots of stuff have to happen for the Viper to work out. Mainly because it would be light track use and occasional driving only. The M6 is appealing because it can do DD duty, light track work, and One Lap. I just can't DD a Viper. It's more likely I buy the second MINI and drive that the rest of this year, then buy the Viper for 2021 and sell it off after One Lap. Tyler is hunting for a Bentley Continental GT for DD and One Lap use, so we may end up running that and I'll just stick with the MINI. Who knows, man, life is fun though.

I'm looking for a proper manual M6, they only made 320 of them in total. I've found three for sale in the country. One in Philadelphia, and two in California. Naturally.

We tested some cars from there. It's a different experience. They basically take your license then say, "take any set of keys you want and have at it". Prices are decent. Can't tell you if they have any wiggle room or if it's as listed since we ended up buying private party.

From what I remember, they have very minimal wiggle room, maybe a few hundred tops.

I almost bought an Impreza from them years ago, but the numbers weren't close enough. I was also being just as stubborn and not budging on my payment and term.

I pretty much expect the no wiggle room thing. They’re selling cheaper trucks even without that wiggle.

May be worth it then. Go in, find the model/color you like, and get out. There are usually 4-5 of the same vehicle so you’ll have a decent pick

I've read reviews online of people getting wrecked cars because they buy them straight from the auction - but I see their license plates all over the area.
