I recall someone on the board purchasing from copart? Can whoever this was chime in. Is it easy to do?
Two times I’ve bought at salvage auctions. I’ve bought an ‘03 Cooper through Copart, had to use a broker but the process was actually very easy and I got very lucky with the quality of the car (although after owning it for two years it’s now sitting in the garage waiting on either the timing chain or supercharger to get replaced, but that’s not really relevant). Second time was an 09 Cooper that’s getting caged to go racing, bought from salvagebid who is basically a broker for IAAI. It’s a bit more of a basket case, runs and drives but the clutch is all but gone and it had a rodent family chewing on wires.

Both times the car took minimal repairs to bring it back to ‘previous salvage’ title status and get back on the road. I’d definitely do it if you’re looking at a fun, extra project car (in fact there’s a E36 M3 through IAAI that is calling my name right now). If it was going to be a daily or primary car, I’d probably stay away though. I just don’t think you get much bang for your buck on the newer stuff.

My dad has a Mini Cooper that needs a new supercharger. Can't believe how much a new one costs.

Yep, it’d be worth more than the car. Not ready to give up on it yet.

What were the fees like? And how did you bid? Just give them a high price and be done with it?

I am looking at diesel trucks. A friend of mine repairs them (specifically Rams) and told me if I found one he'd be willing to do it for me.

Your can check the fees on the websites, in fact I believe Salvagebid will give you the breakdown before bidding so you Don’t have to figure them yourself.
The Cooper #1 was $1700 with $400 in fees I think and #2 was like $800 with $300 in fees maybe.

When I used the Copart broker I still had my own log in and bid live on the site (you can enter a max bid prior to the auction as well). The Salvagebid one was actually a Buy it now option.

Nice. Thanks. I registered on salvage bid and do see the fees. Seems like it's 10 percent or 400 bucks, whichever is more.

Tesla's Battery Day saw announcements of new battery cells that should give a 16% increase in range thanks to a 5x increase in energy with a drop in cost by 14%. The Model S is getting a new "Plaid" version with a range around 500 miles, a top speed of more than 200 mph, and a 0-to-60-mph time under 2 seconds. And Musk promised a $25,000 Tesla in three years, although he didn't show off any new model, and it's not clear to me whether he's referring to an all-new car or a lower-cost version of the Model 3.
That's too fast to put in the hands of a lot of people.
When I was growing up, the Ferrari Testarossa that Crockett was driving on Miami Vice could run 0-60 in 5.8 seconds. You know what can run 0-60 in 5.8 seconds today? A V-6 Toyota Camry. This makes me sound like an old fart, but cars today are really fast.

Check engine light came on in my Elantra and the OBD reader says it's a transmission fluid temperature sensor. $17 part, but to replace it I'd have to drain the tranny, and remove the vertical pan from it.

Autotrader-App-As-Tinder **** slayed me. Just a dagger straight to the heart. You have no idea how many days of my adult life end with me crawling into bed and pulling up Car Gurus/AT to gawk at stuff.

Off-topic: I still don’t like the C8’s design. Don’t care how fast it is.

Look at all the colors we used to have:

The Europeans are buying up lots of what's left of the full size Chryslers (that weren't derbied) from the early 70's.

They're tough to find in good condition. He had one in high school and wanted a second go at it.

Returning my recalled HF jack stands today, and am making the switch to pin style jack stands (sorry dodint).

Used these for the first time when I swapped my winter wheels onto the car. They worked well, but I wasn’t used to the play/wiggle. It’s obviously solid, so I have no fear about getting under the car if need be, but the old HF ones were absolutely dead still; zero play whatsoever. It’s a shame that the tooth design was so poor.

Ah well, welcome to noisy tires season. :(

Took the R1200CLC out today. Mostly to fill the tank, add Stabil, and pressure wash the storage grime off of it. It's moving from the garage to our storage unit for the winter.

Next year I will either ride it or sell it. We have only ridden a handful of times since moving here from Wisconsin.

There was just an amber alert here from Binghamton, NY for a woman and two kids. They said she's driving a 1999 Eagle Talon. Eagle was gone by 1999.
