The Kia Sportage PHEV meets most of the price qualifications, but isn't assembled in the US. That seems to be the thing that doesn't allow it to qualify.

Ahh, yeah, I had not seen anything about the assembly location. Maybe try and support America a little more, commie...

The funny part is, if the guy at Kia had taken my money for a deposit like I had begged him to do a month ago, I'd still qualify.

He's been driving a Vibe this whole time, right? I think he's done his time.

I believe that 50% of the battery materials has to be sourced domestically too.

My van is 19, I think. But it's on the way out, hoping to sell it off by the end of the month.

My Camry turns 19 this year, maybe 20. Haven't looked to see when the original owner bought it. Just know it's a 2003 model.

My wife fully intends to look into classic car plates when her 03 CR-V is eligible (if it is), just because.

Saw that as well. Listened to an NPR story a couple weeks ago where the US screwed up by giving the Chinese the technology to build the batteries, and now we are 5-10 years behind in getting up to speed. So this part of the bill makes no sense.

I thought about that too. Would be funny to be driving an old clunker with paint scratches and the like all over it, but with classic plates.

Does the IRA still have the EV Tax rebates in it? For new and used? Because if so, convince me these slimy dealers won't just up charge the MSRP of the vehicles...

There are stupid rules, like you cant drive after certain times or something if I recall correctly.

With one of those plates you don't have to pass yearly inspection.

She only drives her CR-V once per week, so she'd have no issue meeting that requirement. I also think there's no chance in hell anything would happen if she went rogue and drove it a second time in the same week.

I had one in WI. They're nice, but in WI they're 11-month plates which made it tough to put on a daily driver. It wasn't an issue for my motorcycle. ;)

Just went to see how much the Ford Lightning prices out to be and see MSRP "starts" at $40k. Figure it's really more like $50k, which doesn't seem like an excessive markup to me, at least in today's market

Are hybrids part of this rebate, or only full electrics?

HHAHAHAHAHAHA!! should have clicked "build model" before typing this. As soon as I did, the lowest option was exactly $7500 more than the banner stated. Idiots.

Yep, everything has a catch. Especially when the government AND car dealerships are involved.

I read that the ICE Chargers and Challengers are going away in 2023. Also, that Challenger EV will have canned ICE engine noise. Interesting.

Dodge calls its EV noisemaker the "fratzonic chambered exhaust," which it says generates "sound through an amplifier and tuning chamber located at the rear of the vehicle." That probably makes as much sense to you as it does to me, which is to say almost none. So, we got Dodge spokesperson David Elshoff to explain how it works.

Elshoff told me that the system doesn't sample the noise from the Charger EV's motors, but generates a synthetic one based on the "cadence from a Hemi V8." He adds that it "screams at higher revs," which might explain where Dodge got the Banshee name for its 800-volt electric drivetrain. A transducer then manipulates that sound based on throttle position, vehicle speed, load, and so on, feeding the signal to an amplifier that spits it out through a fairly conventional exhaust. Elshoff likens the setup to "a resonator or those direct/reflecting home speakers from the 1980s."
