How'd you start over? I filed federal but not state since it was $36.99. Paid $24.99 for a stupid HSA. Thanks Obama

Why? I have no reason to. I have 3 W2s (usually only two), $120 of 1099I-NT and $97 of 1099-DIV. I take the standard deduction. I literally could file my return with pencil and paper if I wanted.

Not sure you can go back after filing. I just deleted my return and when I came back in it started me with Deluxe because I used it last year.

I did this once before, too, and had to go into my account on the site and there was a button there to do it.

Oh well, I'll just file the PA 40 on another site.

I did that with NC once, which is why TaxSlayer fills my e-mail spam folder.

you can just go directly to the state and file it through the state. it isn't hard and it is free.

and come on man, you should know better than to think they would deduct their fee from your refund without them charging a fee for their fee.

that's also why Kenny the kangaroo cringes when Jackson Hewitt or HRB or whoever advertises on the radio for their service to pay refunds in advance. that "service" is a disservice to poor people

On Line 29 of the Adjusted Gross Income on the 1040 can I take a self-employed health insurance deduction and how do I provide information for that?

I'm assuming you are self-employed and also filling out a schedule C. I think there some other provisions like you have to show a net profit on schedule C and you can only deduct up to that profit. Always a couple quirks on allowed or disallowed.

You can take the deduction for the premiums you pay. As far as proof, did you go through the market place and get a 1095-A from the marketplace? The proof would be invoices/receipts of payment.

Right, I'm "1099" self-employed and file a schedule C. The 1040 instructions were not super clear.

Yes, I file a 1095-A every year.

Then that would basically be your proof if they came knocking. I think 1095-A shows premiums paid? If not, you would have checks or whatever I would think.

But you just put that amount on line 29.

The only toss up is you aren't eligible to be on your wife's employer sponsor plan if she has one? They would take that deduction away in an audit.

I don't know if there was some hidden meaning in "1099" self employed but if so, I got a good chuckle. I always had those clients.

For the purposes of the IRS I am an independent contractor. Thanks for the help!

This is going to sound really stupid, but for the past two years, I put in all of my tax info, and we'll get a return of about $1500 or so, and then I put in my wife's info and it wipes all that out and goes to us owing money. I checked the tax percentages and she is paying a smaller percent in taxes each paycheck than on mine (keep in mind that last year when I did the taxes, she and I made the exact same amount since we had the exact same job, but she paid way less in taxes which caused us to owe money). What should she do on her W4 to make it better come tax time? Up her # on her W4 or lower it?

When I fill out my W4 I just answer the questions and I think I'm at a 2 because it's her and I, and it all turns out just fine. I'm asking her now to check what number she has on her W4, just curious which way she should shift it to withhold more money.

If you are dual worker family I believe you should be at 1. So your excess us actually coming from your overpayment if you're at 2. If I had to guess she's at 0 and you're at 2?

That's what I've been trying to figure out and my googling won't give me a straight forward answer... which direction should she shift her W4 to make her withhold more? Up or down?

Do the worksheet. Turn it over and there is a scenario for dual income folks.

She goes up to 1. You go down to 1. For baseline withholding of course. If you're using it as a savings you can stay at 2. I'm pretty sure dual income, no dependent couples should be at 1 each. That's how my wife and I are

I'm reading that if you put a 0, that's when they withhold the most amount of money, though. That's why I'm confused.
