Actually I lied. I did have a small state refund last year thanks to massive 529 contributions in 2020.
I also realized I hadn't contributed almost a dime to it all 2021 lol.
Guess it's time to get tiny mac one also.

I was late getting to taxes but doing the federal and state was painless. Left my local one to today then tonight and what a pain in the ass. Had to track down my W2 and type in all the information. Go die local tax officials.

Turns out you don’t get reimbursed for student loan interest if you don’t pay interest. Weird.
Either way, did em at the last minute as per usual.

Pulled the least amount of funny business in my taxation history, and ended up owing money for the first time ever...feels bad. I'm sick of contorting things and having passive aggressive letter exchanges...plus, my new coaching gig up here ended up being a W-2 deal instead of a 1099 deal, so that changes things a bit...
Whatever, I've squeezed a lot of money back over the years...and a decent part of why I have to pay now is because of capital gains from stonk moves, so I guess I got mine...still, feels bad. Taxation is theft, blah, blah, blah...*sigh*

This is the only time of the year that being self-employed sucks. I'm $11K poorer today.

I haven't filed a local return since moving in 2018. Whoops?

Yes, whoops. Although if your employer has been withholding local taxes from your paycheck, you've probably paid all of the tax that was due.

That's the boat I'm in, for the most part. If they want 1% of my wife's 1099 it'll cost them more to come get it than they'll get back.

They came after me a few years ago and I went from owing $10 to owing $60. Bastards.I haven't filed a local return since moving in 2018. Whoops?

Fun story for this tax season; our return got rejected because our kid's information apparently didn't match the IRS records. Checked last year's return and the SSN was the same. Grabbed the card, number was off by one. The accepted it last year with the wrong info and caught it this year.
Also, FreeTaxUSA FTW. TurboTax can die in a fire. Cost me $15 total, and that was only because I filed my State through them, too.

For more than just their software. They are the main reason we even have to deal with this bullshit in the first place.Source of the post TurboTax can die in a fire

UI didn't bother me at all. Took no longer to go through it than it would with TurboTax.

MRW; I get mail from the IRS saying they corrected the amount of taxes I owed by $1,400.

Just got another one of these, this time for 2019. I e-mailed them asking them to just go ahead and send me 2020 and 2021's bills now so that I can scan all of this **** at once and send it to them.Taxes are done (came close to breaking even), and then I received a letter from our local tax collector telling me that I owe them $2300 in earned income taxes from 2018. Not sure why they think that, but I'll be providing them copies of our W2s showing that we did, in fact, pay local taxes that year. This is the first year that our township started using Berkheimer to collect taxes, and I already hate them.

Preliminary information into turbo tax shows me I'm about to receive my largest refund like ever. I have some misc income that still hasn't been added but it's less than $1k.
I don't know if I'm not doing something correctly on my W4 or not. I'm thinking I need to add in (subtract) the 2 child dependent credits to my withholding? Probably why my refund is around $4k higher than I am used to.

I don't have any kids had a pretty vanilla year aside from ~10k in bonuses, I am in line for a 5k return, and I am used to owing at the end of the year.

I just did my taxes. Return seems pretty normal (around 2200 or so)...no kids, wife and I file separately because of her student loan income based payback plan.
I feel my wifes ends up being pretty similar when she does hers.
