How much of his stand-up have you seen? He has a particular style that certainly isn't suited for everyone.

Animals was ok. Then the next one, when he started talking about fat people in 9th grade parlance...I kind of noped out. I think that was the one where he started dissecting an arbitrary illustration from a child’s bible book, as if there was any message to be gleaned.

The office was pretty cutting and authentic. Everything since seems like him trying to guess how normal people interact and what kind of language they use. It works in shows like Derrick, but I though let Extras was lousy and his movies are awful.

John Mulaney has a lot of potential...a whole lot...Iliza Schlesinger (sp?) does too...I hope they continue to grow...

I thought the Carrot Top suggestion was facetious...

Rickles is my all time favorite in a roast scenario...I watch those old Friar's Club clips or whatever very often...
Carrot Top was indeed facetious.

Aziz Ansari's new Netflix special is pretty good. Really need another season of Master of None though.
I was quite relieved that I still liked that new special. Relieved, because have been quickly running out of performers I can stomach watching more than 1-2 times. He delivered everything what I look for - the stories have to be about real life and there has to be enough "growth" and enough differences from the last specials. I did not like the new "super-sensitive" Aziz as much as I liked the previous "confident, yet mature" Aziz from 2015 "Live at MSG", but the cynical me is OK with the possibility that at this stage of his career, he simply had to do one "I have learned from this..." subdued special.

Polling the audience, talking about interacting with parents, and his girlfriend's reaction to racism were all quite enjoyable bits for me.

That being said - for the love of god - no more Master of None seasons!! The first season was really good, Season 2 had 3-4 enjoyable episodes (the one on religion, growing up lesbian, 3 stories about NYC, and maybe the black/white episode 1?), but the main motive of "a sensitive guy falls in love with a hottie a few leagues above him, who herself is in a relationship with a hot jerk guy" is as unimaginative lazy lowest common denominator writing as there is. I watched that season till the end (sort of "since I have already started...") but I really did not feel good doing that.

I watched an episode of Master of None and realized that he isn’t an actor. Which is sort of a problem when you headline a show. I realize he was on P&R playing a charicature, but that doesn’t make you qualified for anything greater.

Did anyone go to theDVE comedy festival?
I was underwhelmed.
I was waiting for somebody to mention the comedy festival, and yes it was very underwhelming. The one female comic was terrible. She beat the 'look at them, they're so uncomfortable" thing into the ground. I didn't think her set was gonna end.

Even Burr's set, something seemed off like he didn't plan much. I mean he was still funny, but like I said something seemed off with his set.
Yeah she was sooo bad.

That's about how I'd describe Burr's set too. Like he didn't plan much. The abortion stuff was funny but it was like 20 minutes of his 45 minute set.

Conan O'Brien is by far my most favorite late night host. Recently, I found "Conan O'Brien: The Art of Comedy" 90-minute discussion between O'Brien and Wesley Morris on Amazon Prime Video:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/ ... u1sZiRiN6Y

It is a very interesting (somewhat serious) interview (and it's actually from 2012) - not just about comedy, but politics, American presidents... I enjoyed it a lot.

And, speaking about comedy/politics - an awesome interview of Norm MacDonald by his sister-in-law:

We were sitting on the couch eating dinner, and I saw a couple notifications pop up on my phone. "Nope," I said. "It's dinner time. I'll check later." It was probably two hours later, (9:30-ish) when I checked and saw the calendar reminder and a voicemail from the kennel wondering where my dog was.

In terms of the greatest comedians, he's been gone a long time, but I'd add Sam Kinison to that list. Kinison was the first comedy show I ever attended. It was in a tent at Station Square, and at one point Sam jumped off the stage and ran over to moon one of the passing trains.

Man, I miss him. :(

He's in the 'revered because he died young club.' I mean, do you really think his shtick would've evolved into something greater as he aged?

The core of his comedy, his writing, was pretty solid. Top drawer stuff. But he was waaaay too reliant on the character, and I don't think it would've aged well at all.

He was sort of the opposite of Dan the Comedian.

Stephen Wright - where is he on the comedian spectrum?

I always enjoyed Steven Wright. I watched five minutes of Kinison and had to turn it off.

Wright's best is really good. I wonder if one liner comics like that get their own category...if they do, he's probably ahead of Hedberg...

That's actually one of the reasons why I like Jimmy Carr. He just tells straight up jokes and one-liners like 95% of the time.
