Ricky Gervais's new stand-up on netflix is great. I'm enjoying this whole netflix/comedians thing. A lot of great stuff on there.
:thumb:

We just watched this and thought it was exceptional. I like when he gets the high pitched incredulous voice.
The wife and I watched it last night, and it was brilliant. :thumb:

Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King (on Netflix)

You will probably not like it if Ricky Gervais is your idea of "great comedy"

HOWEVER, if you were looking to complete the statement "My all-time Top-3 comedy shows are Christopher Titus - Norman Rockwell is Bleeding, Mike Birbiglia - My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, and..." - you probably will find your pick.
- It's NOT a stand-up routine, but a one-man play. So it has a structure, beginning, end...
- Even though Minhaj is a Daily Show correspondent, there are no contemporary political jokes in it (a huge plus for me, because I am growing tired of easy "Trump in dumb" jokes - so I will not watch, say, David Cross for a while)
- and, most importantly, even though it is definitely the "2nd generation American story", it is NOT the super-annoying "I have Tiger Parents and they have a bad accent" (Margaret Cho, even Russel Peters). The "Margaret Cho factor" was probably the main reason I was hesitant to see it (maybe because for my kids, *I* will be that demanding father with an accent :) ). Luckily, Minhaj never mocks his family (never even uses an Indian accent), but presents a very meaningful story - not all-laughs at times - of what it meant growing up "different."

Speaking of stand-up that is a little off from the norm: Neal Brennan's 3 Mics is awesome.

Titus? Come on man...his wannabe Dennis Leary stuff is above average at best...

Brennan thing is interesting from a presentation standpoint. Not the funniest thing I've seen (on any day that I would watch it), but it was cool. I'd watch it again...

Source of the post Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King (on Netflix)
Thanks for the notice. He's one of my favorite correspondents on TDS, so I'll definitely be watching.

I recall watching Norman Rockwell is Bleeding and thinking it was very good, but then never watching/listening to it again after that. So I'd put it in the "salright" category.

Leary's 'No Cure for Cancer' and 'Lock n Load' are two of my all-time favorite stand-up performances. The coffee flavored coffee bit is still as relevant today as it was back then.

I think Tomas wrapped up the 'funniest post in the comedy thread' award with that.

Watched the first half of Dave Chappelle's second Netflix special, "Equanimity". As expected, it's hilarious.

They're both great. I think too many people came into expecting Killing them softly vol. 2.0... it's not that at all. Still great, though.

His bit about trans people is funny.

I'm trying to decide if his bit about trans people was funnier than Gervais. Both takes were terrific.

I watched the Bill Burr Netflix special last night. He's good, had me lol'ing a few times. I don't think I'd pay $50 to see him though.

john mulaney's new standup on netflix: kid gorgeous was pretty good. His first one was better, but this was still enjoyable. I watched it after the pens, so I should probably watch it again when I'm in better spirits.

My wife and I saw Colin Mochrie & Brad Sherwood’s “Scared Scriptless” improv show on Friday. It was hilarious, and exactly what I wanted I to be (basically Whose Line). I didn’t know that they have been touring together for 16 years. I’d highly recommend seeing them if they visit your area.

So we just watched the Steve Martin & Martin Short show on Netflix. Personal top 5 comedy show ever imo. Truly extraordinary.

I have no use for Martin Short outside of Ed Grimley I must say

I like Martin Short, but the Jiminy Glick character is an immediate channel changer for me. It's such an incredible bore.

I am very hot and cold on Martin Short. I really enjoyed the show when we saw it in Lancaster, but there are other times where he drives me nuts.

The way they use Jiminy Glick in the Martin(2x) show is actually pretty funny.
