I thought he did a good job skewered them and exposing them as hypocrites. What a contrast between his realness and the fakeness that permeates the Smith family.

Yea, he kind of re-hashed all of the stuff that's been open in public, which is good because it wasn't anything new or vile. Probably could have been better, but solid overall.

It's probably better enjoyed at the end of an hour of well-written and performed stand-up than as a 2-minute clip on Twitter which is literally someone filming a television.

A poor recording of out-of-context comedy is bad, eh?

He could have also skewered the insane people that defended will and jada. I think roxanne gay wrote a column about how jokes are violence, so it was okay to respond like that, or something insane like that.

I haven't watched this one yet, but Chris Rock has been one of my favorite stand up comedians for as long as I can remember. He just kills it on stage.

I don't particularly like watching new material from old comics... it's all the same. Dave Chappelle sort of ruined it for me. "We can't perform any more because of cancel culture".

Yes, while you're performing on the largest streaming platform that exists, you're being canceled. Well done.

The good: Got tickets to Whose Live Anyway? for later this year (missed them the first time around thanks to covid)

The bad: Dafuq is this convenience fee? Axs is almost as bad as Ticketmaster

The 'convenience fee' should be a discount for handling the booking yourself instead of using a ticket agent.

Agreed. I’d buy tickets at the box office if they had reasonable hours, since it’s near my house.

Just got tickets for my wife and I to see Nate Bargatze this spring. Haven't been to a big standup show since I saw Carlin in 1999 or 2000 lol. Ticketmaster doin' its thing though. Bastards.
$46.75x2 tickets
30.50 "service fee"
6.00 "facility charge"
5.75 "order processing charge"
0.00 Go Mobile delivery.

At least them sending the tickets via email is still free.
This was really good. Three warmup comics were good too. And it wasn't the same act as his most recent Amazon special. Which means it's on his next special.

I see that Rhys Darby is doing a show locally in October, a few days after we see Whose Live. I have no idea what Rhys will actually be doing, but I think I'm going to grab tickets anyway. My man is hilarious in everything that he does.

I watched Tom Segura's new Netflix special last night Sledgehammer. Overall, I enjoyed it but something occurred to me while watching it. I watch/listen to 2 Bears 1 Cave and Your Mom's House, so I got all of the references to Garth, his dad and mom, his wife and kids, Bert, etc. But I think if I didn't know about those things going in I'd have missed a ton of the 'jokes', or at least wouldn't have found them as funny as I did.

Is this kind of a new thing with standup for some of these guys/gals that do podcasts? The show was taped last November, and yet some of the material felt 'old' because it had been referenced/touched on in the podcasts.

No real point here, just found it interesting. I still enjoyed it, just in a different way than like a Matt Rife or Andrew Schultz crowd work show.

I mean, it's as new as podcasts are I guess...but even that's not entirely true. The first B.P. (before podcast) for comedians to try out some stuff and promote their dates was the Opie & Anthony show. Which was 3+ hours of just mostly comedians talking about nothing with one very funny radio host (Anthony Cumia) and one complete **** heel (Opie Hughes) with frequent third mic Jim Norton.

But even luddites like Bill Burr have been doing a podcast since 2007, not long after the formal advent of the podcast itself...

The Opie and Anthony comedy shows were always outstanding. Norton killed it.

It's fun to note how different guys can be in a write-joke/perform-standup situation vs hanging-out-funny. Norton, Patrice, DiPaolo are much better in the latter for my money. But, like, elite in the latter. Where as someone like Burr, DeRosa, etc. are better at writing jokes.

That’s one of the reasons I used to love Tough Crown with Colin Quinn. They were a blast together.

Yeah, Tough Crowd was a really good show. I also liked a short run TV series called The Green Room with Paul Provenza which was less political/news, and more comedians talking about comedy...

I believe the lot of the stuff we're talking about is freely available on YouTube...I'd say more than anything else, I listen to comedians talking about comedy. It's much more interesting to me than even their finished work (specials, etc.)

Unrelated, I see clips of Jeff Arcuri on Reddit all the time, and his interaction with the crowd is hilarious. It’s enough that I’m keeping an eye on him touring to our area so that we can go to a show. My last standup show was… Dave Attel.

Mine was either George Carlin, or if you count it a random Christian comedian on a K-LOVE cruise ship.
