The George Carlin documentary was really good. Maybe an hour or so longer than it needed to be but the second per in particular was really powerful
I think Carlin is funny, but I don’t think he’s the funniest. However his ability to make you think critically makes him the best stand up comic ever imo. I kind of wish he was more popular (not saying he’s unpopular but I feel like more people being aware of his specials would really benefit from them in just challenging their thinking)
I’ve been saying one of the mantras from his last special to myself a lot lately (“it’s all bullshit and it’s bad for ya”). In particular around work because that stuff has genuinely been bumming me out

Ricky Gervais' latest standup wasn't great, tbh. Funny in parts, but overall just OK. Evidently, he's catching flak for being anti-trans...which is completely missing the point of the bit, but OK.

Happens all the time with him. Dumb people don't actually listen to the jokes, but also don't comment on the fact that he makes fun of literally everyone else, too - himself included.Source of the post Evidently, he's catching flak for being anti-trans...which is completely missing the point of the bit, but OK.

He even goes to great lengths earlier in the show to explain the difference between saying something from the heart and saying something because it is what the joke demands to get the laugh.
To that point, I think his comments landed completely differently than Chappelle's similar stuff last year. At no point did I ever have a thought "this is Ricky's heart talking here, he really can't square up with trans folks". Whereas with DC it read very much as "well ain't this some s**t".

My wife and I saw Bill Burr tonight at Santander. Great show. Two opening acts were good too (Dean Delray and another guy I can't remember. He was from Pittsburgh)
A very nice touch...when you got there, you have to put your phone and/or smartwatch into a Yondr bag that is magnetically sealed until someone opens it when you leave. I reached for my phone a few times but it definitely made the show better with no one looking down at their phone.
It was being filmed as well.... We were about four rows from the stage (thank you Mrs. Shafnutz05) and the seats were quite close.

Burr has been on no phones for a bit...I am for it. Comedians are the level for society, not the ones to be chastised for their thoughts...no one has a greater feel for society...

that’s cool, I hadn’t heard of that before. though, if someone forgets to turn their ringer off, I guess you just gotta wait until it finishes since they can’t turn it off themselves?

I'd love to see Bill Burr live, and love that phone policy.

They ask if your phone is on vibrate before you put it in, and check. Did not hear one text or call in over two hours. So good.

What about a smartwatch? Do those go in the bags too? I know they probably wouldn't work if the connected phone is too far away, but it's still a distraction.

Yep. They had me put my Garmin watch in, I told them it wasn't a "Smartwatch" like that but didn't matter. What about a smartwatch? Do those go in the bags too? I know they probably wouldn't work if the connected phone is too far away, but it's still a distraction.

I had my Improv 3 class performance today and it was long form improv. Hooooly **** is that a big change from the short form Whose Line Is It Anyway type games
improv is super fun though and really helps you work on just being silly and comfortable in your own skin. I’d recommend it to literally anyone

I gain more and more of an appreciation for Dana Carvey as I get older. I was listening to his interview on Conan's podcast...every time he starts doing Dennis Miller I'm in tears.

when he was here for the WDVE 50th thing at PPG, there was a relaxed "no phones" policy. They didn't do magnetic bags, but if you so much as brought your phone out of pocket, those ushers were right on it. I guess it doesn't help that even a semi-bright phone looks like a stadium light in a poorly lit environment.Burr has been on no phones for a bit...I am for it. That said, it was nice to be in that type of setting where you didn't have to peek through x amount of rows of phones to see the person on stage.
