The Air New Zealand one by Peter Jackson is pretty awesome. Same with the recent British Airways video.

General Electric has mounted one of the new GE9X engines to its 747-400 test bed for its first flight tests. The GE9X will be the exclusive engine for the upcoming 777X versions of the Boeing 777, and its even larger than the monster GE90s that currently power the 777-200LR and -300ER versions. Popular Mechanics has a picture of the 747 testbed, which shows just how huge the GE9X is. GE and Boeing had to create a special mount for the GE9X that tips it upwards and brings its top above the wing's leading edge. Otherwise it would be dragging on the ground:

This photo really puts that into perspective:

Those GE90s already produce nearly 100k pounds of static thrust as it is, what is this new devilry?
Non-Military Aviation
Interestingly, the GE9X specs out as being slightly less powerful than the most-powerful versions of the GE90, although it will still be over 100,000 lbf of thrust (105,000 lbf versus 115,000 lbf for the current GE90-115B). It's supposed to be significantly more efficient, however. Although the 777X is supposed to be slightly heavier overall than the existing 777 models, I bet the thrust deficit will be compensated for by the wider 787-style wings (with their trick folding wingtips).

Airbus, Rolls-Royce and Siemens are to develop hybrid electric engine plane technology as part of a push towards cleaner aviation.
The E-Fan X programme will first put an electric engine with three jet engines on a BAe 146 aircraft.
The firms want to fly a demonstrator version of the plane by 2020, with a commercial application by 2025.
Firms are racing to develop electric engines for planes after pressure from the EU to cut aviation pollution.
Each of the partners in the programme will be investing tens of millions of pounds, they said on a press call.
The firms are developing hybrid technology because fully electric commercial flights are currently out of reach, a spokeswoman said.

[A]ccording to the Allied Pilots Association union, a glitch in the system American Airlines uses to schedule time off for pilots was erroneously green-lighting every single PTO request. This has left American Airlines with a huge shortage of crew members affecting an estimated 15,000 flights between December 17th and December 31st.

I didn't realize watching that 777 testing that the numbers were the percentage of load limit I was wondering why the guy was laughing after the test.

767 engine failure departing LAX yesterday. I'd hate to look out the window and see this (yes, I know it's a cargo aircraft).

I have no idea what you’re getting at, tif.

Do you see the image?
If I were still working at that place marked on the map, that departure with the burning engine would've been right outside my office window and I would've watched it. As it was, even in the normal course of the day it was hard to not get caught plane spotting all the time.

VASAviation just posted the ATC recording. Looks like the 767 ate some birds:

Ahh, gotcha. I forgot that your office used to be right there, so the context was missing. I’d certainly be distracted with a decent view of planes coming and going, that’s for sure.

There are very few times where I consciously think I'm envious of the rich. Flying and buying airline tickets is right up there.

Ehh, I'm not terribly envious of anyone who spends the kind of money that first class demands these days. I'd rather play the miles game.
