Flying Delta first class from Dubai to Atlanta was the pinnacle of my flying life. I peaked early, and on my employers dime.
They don't even do that (non-stop) run anymore.

@NTP66 What's the longest flight you normally take? I'm less than a week away from an 18-hour hump to Singapore, and I'm reasonably convinced at this point that I'd give my left nut for a private cabin in 1C.

Ever? 6.5 hours, but I generally do 10-11 hours of flying with only an hour break in the middle, mainly on A321s. For an 18 hour flight, I'd be going first class. Mind you, my issue isn't with the class, it's with the cash fare of said class. It's insane.@NTP66 What's the longest flight you normally take? Obviously I agree with that...it's absurd how many times more expensive it is.Mind you, my issue isn't with the class, it's with the cash fare of said class. It's insane.

Is that guy with binoculars creeping on women in other planes?

When we're talking about cost of 1C, do we mean a regular 1C ticket, like on a 74 from SFO-JFK? Or something like that Emirates private suite?

I was referring to international flights vs domestic. In general, they are exponentially more expensive as a percentage of coach price. When we're talking about cost of 1C, do we mean a regular 1C ticket, like on a 74 from SFO-JFK? Or something like that Emirates private suite?

Similar, yes. In my example, I was thinking along the lines of PHL-LAX. $2300 in C is insane. Let's use your example on AA, for the sake of ease:When we're talking about cost of 1C, do we mean a regular 1C ticket, like on a 74 from SFO-JFK? Or something like that Emirates private suite?
- Premium Economy: $1900
- Business: $4600

Sorry, I forgot that you left LA, and used LAX in my reference. Either way, the point remains. Even $4600 for Business is insane to me.

Pfft. Unless you're a really frequent flyer, miles earned through actual flying is ****. CC churning is where you're going to make bank.Imagine the points, though.

I'm cheap enough that I don't think I'd pay for Business even if I had the money. But I do think that ~$2100 for Premium Economy on All Nippon Airlines would be worth it for a future trip to Japan, especially if that's an 12+ hour flight from an origin like Chicago or D.C.

I agree. I didn't include it, but the coach seats were only a few hundred less than Premium Economy, which would make the decision fairly easy for me.Source of the post But I do think that ~$2100 for Premium Economy on All Nippon Airlines would be worth it for a future trip to Japan, especially if that's an 12+ hour flight from an origin like Chicago or D.C.

I walked past a Google Maps car about a year ago and check every once in a while to see if the image of myself waving is up yetEver browse Google Maps trying to find your car parked in random locations? Asking for a friend.

My old commute frequently took past an apartment building where a Street View car was always parked on the street.

The worth of Premium Economy also depends upon the airline, so one needs to check to see exactly what you get. For example, I know international PE in United-speak means the same seat as regular economy but with a couple more inches of legroom, a slightly longer recline distance (6″ of recline versus 5″ in economy), and upgraded meals. Buy a PE international seat with All Nippon Airlines, however, and you get a wider, cushier seat (18.5″ versus 17″) that has an extendable footrest. I just ran some sample ticket prices using flights to Tokyo, and while an ANA PE ticket is about $500 more expensive than a United PE ticket, I think most would say the ANA seat has the greater bang for the buck.

Want wider seats in general? Don’t fly on Boeing aircraft.
Non-Military Aviation
Depends on the airline and aircraft. That is definitely going to be true for the narrowbodies. The 737 (and 757) is slightly narrower than the A320, and every airline is going to fly those 3–3 in economy, so an Airbus can have fractionally wider seats. But the widebodies can vary a lot more. Boeing originally intended the 787 to be 2–4–2 in economy and the 777 to be 3–3–3. But a lot of airlines are now seating those aircraft at 3–3–3 and 3–4–3, respectively. It's not up to Boeing if an airline wants to cram in those extra seats.

This is true. I was specifically referring to narrowbodies, FWIW. More than half of my flights are on AA A321 metal, which is my preference. I think there are far fewer A319 v1s in service in the US, which is one of the few Airbus planes that doesn’t have 18” wide seats. Most of the comparable Boeing’s are 17.2”.

Interesting. Considering American's 737 seats are the same size as that V1 version of the A319, I'm thinking they must have installed the same sets of seats on both aircraft. Here's my bet: US Airways didn't operate any Boeing 737 aircraft at all at the time of the American merger, and it had 93 A319 at the time. American itself had plenty of 737s and about 30 A319s. I bet the V2 A319s are the ones that came from USAir, the V1s are the much smaller number that were originally American, and American cheaped out on those aircraft by installing the same narrower seats that it used on its 737s.
