I watched this video the other day and was pretty much screaming at the TV by the time it ended:

The short of it is that they put it into a stall condition at 37,000ft and instead of simply lowering the nose and gaining airspeed they rode it straight down, nose up all the way, into the ocean. Killed everyone.

I really did not enjoy watching this. Just a nonstop compounding of errors.

Roughest landing in a while on a UA flight PIT-DEN last week. I don’t know if he came in too hot or what but when he hit the reversers anything not strapped in flew everywhere.

I passed my written test, so I 'finished' assembling my home simulator. I repurposed what I could from the sports car cockpit, reusing the seat and the button box. I struggled with key binding some stuff that isn't native to MSFS, I had to learn Spad.next to do that but it turned out great.





I now have everything I need to start working on radio proficiency in the sim. I need to fire up my subscription to the live ATC service, PilotEdge, and get to work.

Last Saturday I went to an FAA Safety Seminar at my local airport. I happened to run into the vice president of the flying club I want to join, as well as their primary instructor. They said the club has a student finishing up in May and it would be best if I joined now and started training in June. I hadn't planned to start training until the fall but I'm not going to complain about the idea of getting to fly sooner than later.

My wife and I signed up for a Discovery Flight at the local school to see how she likes it. Hopefully the weather will be good on Saturday, the forecast doesn't look promising.

As for the simulator, there are some things I'd like to do like wire in my transducers to add some realism. And also actually bolt down the components instead of using the clamps. But it's mostly finished. When I complete my media room in the basement it will move down there and I'll upgrade to a nice curved monitor, but that won't be for a while.

What's the big red button for in the center? Jump to light speed? NO2?

It's just the button the exits the sim and goes back to the menu. I wish it were more interesting than that. That's what it was when it was an iRacing rig, too.

Most of that box is mapped to my transponder and radio panel functions. The GPS units handle the frequencies but actually changing between radios is done with the button box.

So the big red button is just Alt+F4? There's a company called Sierra Hotel Aeronautics that makes fun decals and stuff if you want to customize the panel.

I might go nuts when I move this to it's permanent location. But for now this is fine. I actually don't like simulators, I found that out when I transitioned from struggling in the simulator but doing well at sports car racing. Flying is much the same. But I just need to learn procedures so this is good.
