sees American Airlines trending on Twitter

I know kids and planes is a touchy subject, but this is absurd.

Yeah, I'd be pissed at AA in that case.

It's like we've collectively forgot how to be measured and rational.

For those who may be bothered by turbulence when flying, Captain Joe explains the nine types of turbulence.

AA is shifting their awards program from a mileage/segment based program to a pure revenue-based program. The more you spend (read: AA co-branded cards), the quicker you get status and can take advantage of the plethora of award travel available for many still many miles. Gonna be a lot more Elites in the churning community, which is going to royally piss off the actual frequent flyers when they start losing out on upgrades.

More horseshit from AA. I received the same e-mail this morning:

AA is clearly doing this to prevent people from actually keeping track of their miles, hoping that they expire without redemption.

Award redemption has gone to **** with AA, which makes me feel much better about being terminated from the AAdvantage program.

There are fewer than two dozen commercial pilots in the world certified to land at Paro.

I just found out last month that the FAA requires a special cert to be PIC in/out of Burbank because of terrain.

Wouldn't you rather chat about the F-35 a bit?

Allegiant airlines has departed from its usual practice of buying used aircraft, and it moves away from its current all-Airbus fleet by ordering 30 737 MAX7 and 20 737 MAX8-200 (the special high-density version originally developed for Ryanair), plus 50 options. I'm not sure, but this might be the first time Allegiant has ordered new aircraft.

Boeing is stinging from recent announcements that Qantas and KLM, both longstanding 737 operators, decided to go with Airbus A220s and A320 neos for their next narrowbody fleet renewals, so I bet Allegiant got a great deal on these aircraft.

I've watched some videos of people dissecting the videos. The consensus appears to be that this was absolutely an intentional crash. In particular, it's very clear that Jacob had two cylinders strapped to his legs, which were most likely fire extinguishers. You can see that at least one of them is fire-extinguisher red.

Interesting sighting on my way into work today. Driving along 279 I saw a quad on approach. I first thought I was looking at a KC-135 for the 171st Air Refueling Wing, but then I was thinking that it looked too big for that, but I couldn't think of what else it could be. Said to myself, "If I didn't know better, I'd say that's an A340." So I looked up arrivals on FlightAware, and it was an A340, specifically a "preighter" (freighter made from passenger aircraft with all seats taken out) owned by Airhub Airlines, which I'd never heard of. They're apparently based in Malta, although they're owned by a company based in Lithuania and seem to operate out of there. Came from Hanoi via a stopover in Anchorage. Will be leaving for Riga, Latvia early tomorrow morning.

@dodint: Having a conservation with my 9 year old about flying, and we got to talking about the toddler who kept her up on last year‘a red eye. So she says, and I quote, “I wish the plane had a baby section in the back of the plane with an iron wall between us so we didn’t have to deal with them.” …and I couldn’t help but think of you.

The one of a kind AN-225 Mriya was at least damaged, some sources saying destroyed, in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Yesterday we had a Jet Ranger helicopter flying in a long orbit over our house. It was a racetrack pattern, about 4-5 miles north-south and perhaps half a mile spaced between legs. Hour and 45 minutes. Helo had a large camera chin pod under the cockpit. Today, there's a similar pattern being flown by another helo about 5-6 miles east of here over the Mid-Valley, and it has already been airborne for 1hr 40mins.

Are they capturing imagery for photogrammetry or texture mapping? It's weird, and I wonder if there will be another flight tomorrow over the East-Valley.
