TIL about Rosemary Kennedy, JFK's sister. Whose father forced a labotamy on her that reverted her to a 2 year old. Because she was too rebellious.
Good god. She lived like 60 more years with the brain of a child.

yeah. at first, i also found this interesting, then i read it took 20 years for the mom to visit her in the hospital.i have doubts she was particularly vested in this child. unless she was forbidden to visit or something. which is actually possible. And Joe Kennedy Sr. did it without consulting his wife.

Yeah any look into the Kennedy family turns Camelot into the family from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I don't remember actually ever reading this somewhere, or if I've just made the connection in my head on my own. But I always felt the Corleone family matched up neatly to the Kennedys. Vito = Joe, Santino = JFK, Michael = Bobby

When I lived in Mass. I knew at least one person who treated the Kennedys like the royal family. Still don’t get it.

I am *very* interested in this. The scuttlebutt is that it is extremely hard on the Kennedys (and especially Ted), but I won't believe it until I see it.Chappaquiddick comes out in April.

TIL that Hal Smith, probably most famous for being Otis The Drunk from Andy Griffith, was the voice of Gyro Gearloose on Duck Tales.
He was also did extra voices on the Saturday Supercade cartoon, along with Alan Young, Soupy Sales, and Nancy Cartwright.

One of my good friends (to this day) came to Fox Licensing from ten years as an animator on The Simpsons. One year, we saw her at the annual employee merch sale and he told me this story:...Nancy Cartwright...
She would go and buy up a bunch of animation cells from The Simpsons (natch) and she'd use them as her Christmas cards every year. While that's cool in its own right, she didn't have to buy them; she could've just asked for a stack of them, or even had some of the animators draw up some extras for her. The reason she went out-of-pocket and bought the cells was because the artists that drew them were profit participants in their licensing, and would get a royalty on the sale.
Looking out for your own.

TIL I must be emitting some kind of magic artistic aura. Throughout my school years, I have had only a very limited number of classmates. About 30 in the elementary/middle school, about another 30 in high school (both very small schools in the town of 17K people), and a college program that started at 150, but by the time of graduation shrunk to about 60 (majority of the dropouts simply not being able to pass very difficult exams).
I sort of knew that one of my elementary school classmates became a classical clarinet player, and ended up playing for some symphony orchestra in Prague, but TIL that his private project "Clarinet Factory" just won the 2017 Czech Classical Music Award in the category "cross-over" and his CD "Meadows" ended up on many "10 best" Czech records of the year.

That goes on top of my two college *roommates* (one graduating with MA in Physics, the other with MA in Math from the "Czech MIT"). The first guy is currently one of the most commercially successful movie directors in the country (started with movies for kids, ended up with over-sexed comedies for teenagers - think "American Pie"). The other is one of the very successful theater playwrights - his most recent play even made it on the program of the Czech National Theater (pretty much the biggest accomplishment a living author can get).
So that's 3 out of 120ish. Yes, it must be me...
