TIL Belgium has a Second Christmas Day holiday, Dec. 26th.

It allows for more family visits, a kickoff of vacations, outdoor activities or attending church (it is also St. Stephen's Day).

It's a holiday in most of Europe, if I'm not mistaken.

Yes, in England. After some research it seems that Belgium is in fact one of the few European countries where it is not a holiday., expect in the German-speaking community. Duh.

All I know is Second Christmas is a holiday on our Corporate Holiday Calendar, and all our Belgian employees get the day off.

Second Christmas (26 December) is a holiday in Austria also. I love getting random Catholic holidays off since it’s predominantly Catholic here. Assumption is a holiday here also.

TIL that it wasn't Showbiz Pizza Palace that went out of business and was absorbed into Chuck E Cheese...it was the other way around. Also, there are still 523 stores open.

I also found this website today:

http://www.showbizpizza.com/

Holy hell, what an absurdly vast collection of Showbiz/Chuck E Cheese nostalgia.

Hands up all who had or attended a birthday party at Chuck E Cheese growing up.

I just learned this week that CEC was founded by Atari as a way to push sales of coin op video games, and that for much of the 80s Atari had a 'pizza division'.

I vaguely remember the Chuck E Cheese in Altoona being a Showbiz back in the late 80s.

I think they just recently decided to get rid of the animatronic band because they're having a hard time finding parts.

Is that the "patient zero" of animatronic band references...? I've never heard of this establishment myself...

"Grandfathered" as an idiom originates from Jim Crowe legislation that cheated newly freed slaves from voting. If you were able to vote before the war you could still vote regardless of whatever poll taxes or literacy tests they used; so illiterate poor white folks could still exercise their right to vote.

I say this because (1) it's interesting; and, (2) some people think that it's racist to use the term 'grandfathered' in its common usage today.

Wisconsin ( @dodint ) separates out the "7th, 8th or 9th" DUI from the "10th or greater" in terms of sentencing and felony classification...very re-assuring...
