Despite the descriptions of penguins report that they have a 'short neck', they actually have a long neck, covered by fat. On the other hand, one of the etymology alternatives for penguin is the Latin word 'pinguis', which means 'fat' or 'oil'

We went to the zoo for the Penguin march yesterday (my wife's bday wish). About two dozen King's making a lap around the penguin house, walking six inches from you was pretty cool. What was amazing was to watch how far they could turn their necks or crane them and make themselves at least 6 inches taller.

I do know that already. The other day I learned that his standup is - predictably - garbage...

I like the guy though...standup just isn't his thing...

TIL that verizon is discontinuing the use of its 3g network at the end of 2019 to make way for 5g.

My current phone was acquired in December 2011 and according to the internet it runs on CMDA and EVDO or EVOO or some sht. DOes this mean that my phone will not work after 2019?

TIL there was a project to re-build the Collosus of Rhodes in 2015 but it seems to have died down. I imagine it'll actually happen at some point though, which is cool

Katharine Hepburn only attended the Oscars once. In 1974, she presented an award, while purposefully wearing her clogs & gardening clothes from home. Parts of her clothes had to be spray-painted black backstage to hide dirt stains from working in her garden before the show.

"To prepare for his role in “The Girl from Petrovka” in 1974, actor Anthony Hopkins tried to read the book but could not find a copy anywhere. Luckily he found one left on a bench in London and when he eventually met the author, George Feifer, he realized he had found Feifer’s own copy. The author had lent the book to a friend who’d lost it."
