Yeah, that's where I went. It was very good but the menu was definitely limited. The meatball restaurant on the first floor is also super good but much more casual.

Somewhere downtown/arena area for an anniversary dinner which takes reservations?

Basically, stop me from going to meat and potatoes again.
I enjoyed Sienna Mercato. After dinner you could head upstairs to the rooftop beer garden.
Just make sure it's not the weekend if you do.
Crazy up there on the weekend? We went before a show at the Benedum so it was likely a weekday.
The beer garden, yeah, definitely not worth it on a weekend.

I don't know that middle one, but Restaurante Martin Beratasegui is a bucket list-caliber type of restaurant that will cost you the equivalent of a mortgage payment to eat dinner there if you go with the wine pairings.

Based on the photos of the food served at Restaurante Martin Beratasegui, each meal better have 20 to 30 courses, or otherwise I'd need one of those Primanti's sammiches afterwards in order to not still be hungry. Plus a lot of the courses look like something you'd find by flipping over a rotten log in the forest.

I can certainly appreciate all the skill and technique that goes into modernist cuisine, and I'm sure that green foam is delicious, whatever it is. That said, if you offered me the choice of, say, a free meal at Noma or a free meal at Billy Bob's roadside BBQ shack in Stumpwater, South Carolina where Billy Bob's been the pitmaster for 40 years and there's a line out the door every night, then hand me a roll of paper towels, because I'm going to Billy Bob's. Plus I wouldn't need to dress up.

Ironically I had pitmaster quality bbq today for supper.

Stateline BBQ in Lake Wylie for the Charlotte crowd.

In reviewing this thread for Condado impressions, I'm not sure there is a more divisive issue on 5AF. The folks that hate it hate it a lot, the others really enjoyed it.

Trying to decide between there and Bakersfield for lunch. We always go to Bakersfield so we're looking for something new.

I haven't tried Bakersfield. I liked Condado. I didn't like that I did not get a receipt and felt overcharged. Didn't realize it until the next day and decided not to do anything about it..

Condado isn't bad. I agree that Bakersfield is better. I've still yet to get a perfect taco in the city, though. I need to go to Las Palmas but the health inspection reports are kind of terrifying.

las palmas in Oakland has bad health inspection reports. I think brookline does better but not gr8

I liked edgar's best tacos in the strip but it was too expensive for what it was. brasssero in braddock is pretty damned good

every once in a while the dunn gives his hot takes on tacos in pgh, so maybe now would be a good opportunity for a rant.

While I do believe that a sketchy health inspection report adds some Mexican authenticity to a taco, Las Palmas Oakland is gross. Brookline, Beechview, Washington, Oakland is your Las Palmas hierarchy. La Catrina in Beechview was delicious and served all kinds of authentic Mexican food but they're just a truck now. Alquisiras Paleteria in Beechview also serves a bunch of stuff but their homemade popsicles are the stars of the show. Second best tacos in the Pittsburgh area are at La Poblanita in Coraopolis. Place is clean and the food is extremely good. Lengua is always on the menu and tripas are added to the menu on weekends.

Edgar's is fine but he uses trash tortillas. Las Palmas and La Poblanita use El Milagro tortillas, which are the best tortillas money can buy. I don't know what it is, but places around here that make their own tortillas make shitty ones. Much too dense and usually bland. Tako is overpriced hipster bullshit. Condado doesn't even offer god damn soft corn tortillas. The place is bullshit and should go **** itself straight to hell. The tortillas at Bakersfield aren't the best, but they make a good, more traditional taco but it really shouldn't even matter because their torta milanesa is the best thing on the menu and what you should be ordering anyways. Caasa Reyna is too god damn expensive. La Palapa is good but I prefer their other offerings to their tacos.

The biggest takeaway from the list is **** Condado the place is trash.

We need a lettered grading system in PA. When I lived in LA, I ate at plenty of 'C' rated taco stands because at least I knew what I was getting myself into. I'll take a "generally acceptable" rating for food handling and pest control. It didn't hurt that all the best taco places had C ratings. It's a crapshoot here unless you do your homework.
