Has anyone been to the industry location in robinson? what an experience.......its a place trying to create the hipster experience (filament lightbulbs, "reclaimed" wood everywhere, drinks in mason jars, the whole nine yards) housed in an old don pablos within sight of a sam's club. they even import hipsters from town to work there. yet somehow it has survived like 3 or 4 years.
From my understanding, authentic Lawrenceville hipsters spurn Industry.
I could see why....industry attracts more of a marios/broski type crowd than a spirit type crowd

Yeah, it's like a shadyside bar. Hipsters have everything they could possibly want from Spirit

Why do I have a feeling that Lowkey Taco is going to be some hipster wannabe gourmet taco joint that in reality makes half-assed tacos?
Gourmet tacos are ****. Täkō is ****, Bakersfield is ****, Smoke is ****.
Condado is terrible ****.

Bakersfield is ****
Bad take.
This is the one I don't agree with. Even if my go to at Bakersfield is the milanesa torta, these tacos are generally more traditional and pretty good. They've even got huitlacoche!

I've been to Spirit. It can't be that authentically hipster.

Maybe I'll give it another go next time I'm in the cultural district, but my initial thoughts were it was trying really damn hard to be hip and forgot to worry about making a decent taco. Plus the clientele annoyed the piss out of me.

Good take. :thumb:

I go during lunch so it's not usually too bad, but last time I was in there the people watching was interesting.

A former moose lodge that has kept all it's furnishing from the 1960's? Plus they hold events like vinyl flea markets. I feel like if you gave a bunch of hipsters a free community space somewhere, this is what it would turn out to be.

I got a tostado the first time I was there, it seemed like just a taco salad. I've had way better tostados.

There are a lot of companies in that area that provide it with many happy hours. Like one of every two happy hours I get invited to is there. I don't like it. That wild boar bacon though is the bomb.com

Yeah, I always get the tostados too. Not sure I've ever tried the tacos themselves.

Wait a minute... this is news to me. I thought Bakersfield was known for their tacos? Now I definitely have to go back.

Tried out a few new places recently.

Lidia's in the Strip for NYE was meh. I wish I would've had the tasting trio instead of the gnocchi which was smothered in duck ragu to the point it was overwhelming.

Mezzo at Sienna Mercato last night before seeing Hamilton. Much more my speed compared to Lidia's. Got the parmesan & peppers pizza which was delicious. Also had the arancini, which was great as well. I did regret not going to Emporio instead. Those meatballs looked killer.

The Oakland location is kinda gnarly. Beechview or Brookline or bust.

That entire stretch of atwood is both cool and gnarly at the same time

it is a microcosm of Oakland.
