Must be a terribly small burger if you're leaving still hungry...

Not sure if this is a hot take.

Burgatory sucks. Every time I go there I leave hungry. And their burger of the day usually sucks too
I've been to just about every "best burger in PGH!" place and Burgatory is still my favorite. First person to bring up Tessaro's gets a knuckle sandwich.

a knuckle sandwich.
How big is said sandwich? Is it enough to satisfy a mac? If not, is it enough to satisfy a slappy?

I haven't found a better burger than Burgatory. The problem is their sides are absolute garbage.

5 Guys is still delicious... also, they do milkshakes now? Didn't get one, but might next time I stop in.

I worked as an overnight 9/11 operator on a military base. The only restaurant open past 6pm was McDonalds, and a Five Guys. I got really fat really fast.

I don’t like Burgatory because their “wagyu beef” has the consistency of undercooked meatloaf...too mushy.

I read there are only 9 restaurants in the US that serve authentic wagyu beef. 3 of them are in Vegas. I need to find the article again.

"Wagyu" burgers are pet peeve of mine. Wagyu is a term that refers to several breeds of Japanese-bred cattle that are used to create high-end Japanese beef like Kobe beef and Matsusaka beef. Those types of beef are rare and expensive and are very rarely exported. When one sees "wagyu" beef here, it just means that one of those breeds is being farmed in the US.

The defining characteristic of the wagyu breeds (especially when raised properly) is the super-fine marbling of fat in the meat. That fine marbling creates a "melt in your mouth" sensation when eaten. That melty tenderness especially shows up when the meat is sliced thin, which is how steak is very often eaten in Japan. Grinding beef to make burgers destroys the natural texture, and the fine fat marbling of wagyu beef is rendered immaterial when ground because you can just toss chunks of suet into the grinder to set the fat content at whatever you want. Also, wagyu beef is known more for a delicate flavor than for being super "beefy" or anything like that. Wagyu burgers are a gimmick. One will get much better flavor by grinding leaner, more flavorful cuts of regular Angus beef like round, chuck, brisket, etc. and adding fat to get the desired fat content.

If I were inclined to grind my own meat to make burgers, I'm using chuck and sirloin. Learned that on Good Eats many years ago, and it's still my go-to.

Their fries are awful. You would think a burger joint would have excellent fries, but this is not the case with Burgatory.

They closed the 5 guys in Murrysville randomly, and I've only been to the Burgatory in Murrysville once. 5 guys is hard to beat when you can load it up with all sorts of sht.
