Avenue B is closing on Friday. We went last weekend and it was a great send off.
Anything going into the space? It's literally a block from my house and I'd like to see something go in there.

Not that I have heard. The Avenue B owners said they didn't renew their lease and left it at that.

Any experts on "contemporary creole cuisine"?

I have a dinner invitation for this place in a few days:
http://www.jubans.com/dinner/

...and I'm looking for recommendations - what are "the" entrees to introduce somebody to this type of cuisine?

@tifosi77 would probably know better, but if I were to stick to the most traditional creole offerings on that menu, I'd go with:

Louisiana Oyster Carousel or Frog Legs Vacherie as an app;
Gumbo as a soup/salad; and
Fish Meunière as the main.

There's a conception that creole and Cajun food is really spicy, but it really isn't that bad. Dishes tend to be much more highly seasoned, but that's the only real watchout.

Shyster's suggestions are good, but I would go with the redfish as an alternative.

Thanks! Just to better specify my request - I was more interested in the "contemporary" aspect of the creole cuisine (as opposed to the "traditional tourist trap" cuisine I get to eat every time I visit NOLA). I am hoping that going to Baton Rouge will give me one opportunity to taste the "real stuff." :)

When you go to NOLA, do you go to Bubba Gump's or Acme Oyster House? My experience is that every single meal I've had in NOLA in three trips has been outstanding.

Last 3 restaurants visited, I believe:
K-Paul Louisiana Kitchen, NOLA Restaurant, Emeril's New Orleans

Those are indeed tourist traps.

Felix's, Bayonna, Brennan's, Royal House, Antoine's, Glatoire's, Coop's, Central Grocery & Deli, Bourbon House. That's just the Vieux Carré. A short Uber/Lyft into Treme will get you Willie Mae's and Dooky Chase. Go the other way to the CBD for Compère Lapin, Cochon, Cochon Butcher, Herbsaint, Bon Ton Cafe. Further upriver, Commander's Palace, Coquette.

The sort of famous bars (Carousel, Sazerac Bar, Pat O'Brien's, French 75) have been, in my experience, an absolute hoot and worth the crowds.

First call as soon as we check in is always Sazerac. And POB is more about being next door to Preservation Hall, tbh.

Winghart's has delivered both times I've gone there, it's becoming one of my favorite places to eat downtown. Wish the seating area was a little bigger but what are you going to do?

It's not bad. The mac & cheese is on point, though.

The server was pretty funny. I made a passing comment about how I'd rather eat at Winghart's than Primanti's and she unloaded a rant I'm sure she's given a hundred times. Wonder if they fired her or something.

Has anyone been to Federal Galley? And if so, would you assume it would crowded today between 5:45 and 6:45?
