Any recommendations for good restaurant(s) close to downtown DC? (I'll be Capital Hilton hotel, pretty much just a few blocks from the White House)

Something to take (rich) people for a "networking dinner", preferably no "chains" (Capital Grille, Palm, Fogo,...)

minibar is excellent. $295 per person prix fixe (before tax and tip), will take 2.5-3 hours your time, and tickets are prepaid and sell out month in advance.

These are not meant as arguments against the place, just setting expectations.

We went to Old Ebbitt Grill when we were in DC last summer. Food was good.

I feel bad for the older folks, who visit family owned restaurants on a regular basis and then they close their doors.

Popular Osterburg restaurant Slick’s Ivy Stone is keeping their doors closed after 40 plus years.

A “goodbye” comes from Samuel E. Slick Jr, and Hideyo Slick, as they announced it’s not feasible to reopen at this time on their website.

On behave of the entire Slick family, they would like to thank all loyal patrons that have helped them keep their doors open since 1979.

They said through patron support, friends and coworkers were able to earn enough money to buy their first cars or pay for college.

“It has been our pleasure to serve of all you all these years and we thank you so much for your valued friendship and support,” a closing statement from Samuel E. Slick Jr. and Hideyo Slick.

Slick’s Ivy Stone closed in December for the winter season and was anticipated to reopen in April.

Mostly the quality of the food. Filet was over cooked, pasta was boxed not homemade, and the meatballs were dry. My wife got the veal and while it was good, we’ve had better for cheaper. When I’m paying that much, I expect it to be among the best food I’ve ever had. In actuality, Garbarinos in East Liberty is 100 times better and a third of the cost.

That’s crazy. I’m a big fan of Garbarinos. We’ve never been to Allá Famiglia, but are huge fans of the sister restaurant Arlecchino in Peters, which has always been beyond fantastic. What the hell is going on there that they’re using boxed pasta? That’s bullshit.

Went with my brother and SIL last week to Pusadee’s Garden in Lawrenceville. This is currently a hard reservation to get unless you're willing to dine early or late, and I can now see why. They're doing high-end Thai food. It's far from the usual "red, green, or yellow curry" you see in most Thai places. The menu is fairly small and rotates regularly. The food is amazing. While some dishes are spicy, the food doesn't rely on heat. Rather, the phrase that I used repeatedly was "layers of flavor." Everything was well-composed, well-executed, and absolutely delicious. Not cheap, though. We each spent well over $100, although that was including drinks. The cocktail menu from head bartender Curran Dewhirst is every bit as complex, layered, and delicious as the food, and although $15 or so for a drink stings a little, IMO the drinks are worth it. Finally, the freshly renovated interior of the restaurant is upscale and gorgeous, with indoor seating surrounding a large central garden that will surely be a wonderful place to eat once the weather warms up a little more. Highly recommended; Pusadee’s Garden is an absolute gem.

Had a filet at Vic and Anthony's in Houston last week, easily the worst steak I've ever had at an upscale steakhouse. You get filet specifically because it should be melt in your mouth tender. Someone tell Vic and/or Anthony.

Only Steakhouses I know in Charlotte are of the chain variety. Del Frisco’s and Firebird’s are both in the South Park area. Just go to Cowfish.
