Yeah, that makes sense. I found a podcast called Crimetown that I'm going to try. Explores the mafia in Providence, RI. Interested to see how that is presented.

Any good recs? I pretty much listen to these all day at work, so I’m subscribed to way too many, and in search of more.

I’ll give my list / classifications:

Love:
The Axe Files with David Axelrod (he comes across as a really intelligent and likeable guy to me)
Lovett or Leave It (Goofy, but I love it.. only for liberals)
Puck Soup (I know, I know, most hate them, but I like it)
Marek v wyshnski (See above)
Pod Save America (liberals only)

Like:
Pod Save the World (Liberals only)
Presidential (does a 30-40 minute episode on every president, focuses on history but also their personality)
PFF Pro Podcast (NFL)
The Lowe Post (NBA)

Decent, but nothing that excites me:
Planet Money (random talk about random subject)
Embedded (goes in depth about 1 subject)
Tunch & Wolf (I know, I know)
This American Life (It is ok, but just kind of a time killer to me a lot of times.. at the bottom of this category)
Something you should know (random topics / interesting facts)
Pirates Breakdown Radio

Looking for something of similar subject that’s better:
Pittsburgh Sports Now (Pitt)
Garage League Podcast (Pens, very informative, but bores me sometimes)
DLF Dynasty Podcast (Dynasty FF, boring me)
Effectively Wild: A Fangraphs Baseball Podcast (Starting to bore me)

Ones I just added / listened to 1 episode but liked :

Wait Wait.. Don’t tell me (Goofy game show format with a guest about week’s current events, was pretty entertaining acutally)
Hot Take Down (Takes 1 sports subject a week and breaks down numbers on it… Really like NBA MVP discussion I listened to
538 Politics (Liked the 1 episode I listened to)

Panther Lair with Chris Peak is a good one if you're looking for a Pitt sports podcast to replace Pittsburgh Sports Now (I've never listened to the latter).

I didn't know they were still making Panther Lair. I figured all that had gone away when TribLiveRadio died.

The Lost Podcast on the Left. Talks about urban legends, cults, science fiction. The L Ron Hubbard one was very enjoyable.

Why did I spend 7 hours listening to S Town?

Not good, folks. I find people to be weird, in general. This guy didn't move the needle.

Finished S-Town.
I think the events immediately surrounding John's death were interesting. But the last 3-4 chapters were basically a waste of time, just for the "reveal" that John was using Tyler for the pain therapy stuff. Also that John was almost certainly suffering from Mercury poisoning. Basically like a novel that seems very promising, but then just fizzles out.

I assume Lauren Lapkus was on pretty much the whole time then.

Finally checked out Spittin' Chiclets since it's been brought up here a few times and I wanted to hear their thoughts on the Final. They talked about the Cup for about 20 minutes before moving on. Okay then. And I don't remember Whitney having such a hard Boston accent. They put those on for the show, don't they?

No he's got a pretty good accent. It was ok, was surprised they went with the Shawn Thornton interview, but being that he's a Boston guy, RA was all about it.

I don't care if they talk about it or not, RA was upset because had money on the Preds, but at least he gave the Pens credit.

If you're looking for heavy Pens ones, go listen to the ones where he's had Colby and BizNasty on.

They spend too much time with the "what are you up to these days?" With their guests. I don't know who could possibly care about thornton's new office position. Or Kevin weeke's journey to being a mediocre analyst surrounded by horrible analysts.

It's been a disappointing playoff run for this show.

...but it's still good. Whitney is a meat head but holy moly is he good at reading ads. He's like an idiot savant.

Does anyone listen to Pat Macafee's podcast? Just started today, and he had Ian Cole on while in the middle of the Parade. Nothing of value happened, just seems to be a bunch of bro's just saying whatever comes to mind.

I've really been enjoying Bill Simmons' The Rewatchables podcast

Essentially him and Chris Ryan just talk about rewatchable movies (The Departed, A Few Good Men, Heat, etc.). If you like Bill Simmons I highly recommend it, if you hate Bill Simmons then stay far away

I am currently listening to Destroyer of Worlds, Dan Carlin's 6ish hour podcast on the Atomic Age. It begins shortly before Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He is an extremely skilled narrator, and I always enjoy the obscure primary sources he is able to find, with interesting quotes and whatnot. Always a good listen.

My wife hates it, can't stand the hosts voices.

That's a podcast where it's most rewarding to pick and choose episodes that interest you. If not you'll get a disproportionately large amount of women hero stories.

I got into them specifically because around October of every year they get into some darker stuff around Halloween. Unsolved mass murders, etc.

Heh, that's funny that you mention those two things...because the first negative thing I picked up on is how annoying the hosts' voices are...the second thing I noticed was how hard they pushed a pro-women angle...

Either way, I'm gonna pick around and make the best of it for a little while...at least, while it's a shiny new toy...

The phrase "fat girl laugh" comes to mind, but I've never searched for pictures of the hosts so I have no idea if it checks out or not.

I enjoy this one as well. The Ringer has a pretty good stable of podcasts.

I skimmed this thread so correct me if I'm wrong, but... nobody mentioned Pardon My Take? I'm shocked. It's incredibly popular and IMO the greatest/funniest podcast out there, by far.
