Ending the regular season at the Brickyard? Barf. Agree with rel, the splitter is a total disaster.

Going to Indy was cool like once 20 years ago.

Yup, the novelty has worn off and then some. It's also a lousy spectator track.

I also think the downfall of Champ and the continuing "who cares" about Indycar racing also hurts it.

Nice to see the 3 in victory lane again, about the only way RCR can do it anymore, fuel milage. But sure beats the 48 or 18 winning!

... side note - that 78 team has Charlotte figured out. Lead 580+ miles last year in the win and another 246 last night.

Iowa - John Hunter Nemechek wins again in the truck series, and William Byron gets it done in the Busch/Nationwide/Xfinity level, overcoming his 12/1000s loss to Denny Hamlin the week before. The former is more the surprise - undersponsored team in danger of not going to races and pulls one out, then backs it up on a timely restart.

88 saves one of his best weekends at Sonoma for his last.

I figured I'd give it a shot, road course and all.

Was the Danica Patrick show, which for some reason I was surprised was still a thing. NASCAR tried to duplicate the IndyCar Visor Cam by crudely strapping a GoPro onto her head so they spent half the race watching her flail around the back of the grid, including spinning into traffic and knocking some folks out. Most drivers, upon spinning, will hit the brakes when they start rolling backwards into the racing line in a spin, but not her.

DW: "She was having a great run in 19th place." Well, DW, she started 6th.

Was surprised how aggressively they took some of those curbs, yikes.

I still think Sears Point needs to use the old full course. The one it took Earnhardt near the whole damn race to pass Mark Martin in the 6.

In her defense she was still running 6th when Jr spun and collected her the first time.

That was a weird spin, his setup was really loose all race. To counter your point though, he ended up finishing 6th. ;)

I really don't care about her. I just assumed that when she lost her big sponsorship she'd get less coverage. It's the first race I bothered to watch in a while and I really didn't expect to be watching it from the top of her giant forehead.

That reminds me, are they using digital dashes now?

Well it was a stupid move to defend that early in the race with nobody behind Jr, and then I couldn't believe the spotter wasn't telling her to park it and wait for Jr to spin by. I figure she's just under so much pressure right now that she felt she needed to be up in front of the camera as much as possible. If the car had anything left after that hit it certainly was a duck after going three wide with the 88 and 42 and getting drilled by the 17. She was trying to keep it matted and stop the spin, and was either too optimistic or too lazy to switch feet when the time came.
The kids came in from swimming right around that point and wanted cartoons so I didn't see a whole lot else.

As for the visor cam, it's not a whole lot different than a normal in-car cam in a tin top. There's something more exhilarating about its use in an open cockpit car.
And yes, they're finally using 30 year old technology with a digital dash.

Even Gordon said it was a bit too high still, your eye line is with the rollbar. It's not *bad* and I hope they keep doing it, but it doesn't need to be half the race. Hopefully the new shiny toy thing wears off.

I know I'm hyper-critical about NASCAR. I guess I just get let down when I go out of my way to give them another shot and they keep doing stuff that repels me. Staged racing, DP shadow cam, awful announcing, etc. I should've just watched the DTM race I had queued up on my DVR. My bad.

Even the visor cam the Indycar guys have been broadcasting are actually on top of the helmet. Here's your other favorite American driver with his. You can make out the black mount at the front of the helmet just over the visor:

As for hyper-critical of NASCAR, no skin off my nose. Very little of motorsport is the same as what I fell in love with as a kid.

The best. It was that NASCAR that sold me.
Now Earnhardt and Bodine would be flagged and sent to pit road.

We gave up our seats up about four years ago. Miserable heat, crappy racing, we opted to give them away a couple years and then decided that getting tickets would never be difficult if we had a change of heart. Big mistake (for NASCAR and IMS), because we never even consider going now. Kansas usually puts on crappy races, but since the place only holds 60k nobody would pass up on renewing because they'd lose their "good" seats.

Now September and seeing how empty the infield was might make me consider going back. With the kids as small as they are I won't be int he bleachers for a long time. But speaking of the good seats bit, I still buy my Indy 500 bleacher seats every year because I don't want to give them up.

Spent the evening at Lernerville, 4/10mi dirt oval. Crazy stuff, not for me as it's so intense for so long. Crazy to watch though.

Someone I know is interested in maybe having me drive an Enduro car for him. I would absolutely do that.
