Look at it this way: If the PA is giving you the results, everything's good. If they say, "Please hold for Dr so-and-so," hang up immediately. Then go make sure your insurance and will are in order, and call back.

I still want the doctor telling me everything that I need to know, not a PA.

Most of the time a PA is going to know just as much as the doctor honestly as far as test results go.

I mostly just want their diagnostic testing, and really don't care who gives me the results. I listen to any advice doctors may give, but then I research it myself to the point of basically being an expert.

Nah, I want the head of the department surgeon who I specifically went to see to review the results, let me know what they mean, and then develop an action plan. Not the 30-something PA that has never been involved in my case.

The surgeon most definitely viewed your results and consulted with the PA. It’s not realistic to have department heads calling patients with routine results.

As meow said they doctor/surgeon is consulting with the PA on your results anyways and along with them are discussing plans of action. I get what you are saying but PA's have to pass the same medical boards as doctor's do.

If you are on a long term therapy or illness I'd argue the PA that sees you everyday is more in the know than the doctor who sees you maybe once a week or so.

Full disclosure my wife is a PA but I've heard stories from the leukemia ward of doctor's coming to consult with her and ask her for what they should do on things because she is involved in their everyday treatment and medications and he only sees them are once or twice a week at most.

She is a PA in the cardio thoracic department now but it seems to run largely the same ...just not patients dying regularly due to lukemia.

Yeah PAs are more than qualified to convey diagnoses. PAs/NPs are the future of medicine.

At least you weren't like the guy in the news recently who was told he was going to die by a doctor via the monitor on a robot.

The surgeon messaged me last night via MyChart. Suck it, 5AF.

If i remember the timeline, this MyChart message would've been after the chat with the PA, right?

It's not the PA is making the call to be the messenger.

Yep. I didn’t expect a reply since the PA already replied, and didn’t send a follow-up message or anything. All of my Penn docs have been good about getting back to me directly, so the streak is still alive.

I don’t remember one specific incedent where it happened but I somehow tweaked my back yesterday and was in absolutely debilitating pain.

Chiro helped to get it down to bearable today but wow.... never had pain like that without some specific trauma.

My favorite part about middle age is if I have the AUDACITY to sleep for more than 7 hours, my back is sore all day. It's unbelievable.

And I tweaked my back a week ago, working out. Chiro fixed me up, along with ice packs and so on...but it takes a full week for the pain to disappear now. In my 20s and 30s, it would be gone overnight. Boo.

Same with sicknesses. My kids had the stomach bug and it lasted 1-2 days for them. When I was infected, it took a week to get over.

I'm still dealing with effects from the flu almost 12 days later. My stomach still hasn't felt "right" since before I was sick.

Bowed legs. Anyone else?

My gate seems to be getting worse with age, as does my chronic IT band pain.

Synthetic bodies need to be a thing yesterday.

Yes, it's awful. Everytime I eat even really the smallest thing my stomach feels super bloated and always ends up in bad news.

I would pay a ridiculous amount of money for medication to kick a cold quickly.
