Lol. Not sure I would’ve put it that way, but now that you have, I can’t think of it otherwise.

Source of the post Penn Hospital is one of those Cinemax boobs where the nipples are cross eyed.
Do you actually live in the city? PAH is the best of the three Penn Medicine locations.

I’m in Jersey. Penn Hospital has the top specialists, so I go there. It’s a no brainer for straightforward, clinical diagnoses. An inner city ER is just not where anyone should be if given a choice, however. And they aren’t a collaborative Hospital. Their doctors are walled off from each other unless it’s something like a cancer program. So if you have something where there’s a struggle to find a diagnosis, it’s not ideal. Long waits for appointments and no individual is vested into your care.

My GI at Penn told me to apply to the Mayo Clinic for these reasons. I was rejected, however.

I worked at Penn for over a decade, and still have a number of family members there. Great place for specialized treatment, but it's a god damn **** show getting appointments, and like you said, they somehow wall themselves off from one another. Probably due to their expansion where they buy up hospitals and never actually fully integrate them.

That is a totally legitimate ER visit, IMO.

Our goal is more to eliminate the people that come in with bug bites or other superficial issues. There are patients that come into the ER hundreds of times a year. Those are candidates for redirection

i had a moth fly in my ear 5 or 6 years ago, the ER took everyone before me but it was total misery. I would have rather broken my arm

Years ago I went to the hospital with heart palpitations, and wasn't seen for three hours. Completely against any ER policy, but this is also the hospital that let more than one patient die in the waiting room. By the time I was seen, it had stopped.

Say you are lightheaded. You will probably get seen sooner. Unless you are some crack hospital - which seems like some of you go to.

A week after that blood work, the ultimate result of my AI flare up was an inflamed testicle. I went back to the crack hospital and waited for 8 hours that time in very much pain. I wasn’t as patient...but at the same time, there were people who looked like they already passed away in the waiting room. It was a bad scene. Elite Penn Hospital doctor then advised me that I could be imagining things, that the ball in question may not be inflamed because there’s often a lack of symmetry (the premise being that I discovered my nutsack for the first time at age 35) and then asked “which side” I had my vasectomy on earlier that year. This was the attending doctor at the ER.

I only went to that particular ER because it was 2 minutes from my wife’s condo and I was having heart issues. Unless you’re looking for me to defend Penn? That probably won’t happen... :)

yeah, once the decay gets down to the root it can be awful, awful pain. I have a tooth that I chipped over a year ago. the dentist says I need a crown (duh) but that I can't put it off much longer because if I do it'll lead to root canal which I REALLY don't want. even with insurance it's going to be costly so I'm trying to wait until my tax refund comes through (hopefully by the end of the month) so that I don't have to put it on a credit card.....

I got shingles when I was 25 and an elderly woman for some reason. It doesn’t mean you’re gonna turn into a jigsaw puzzle. I had a 2 inch painful patch on my right shoulder. The whole thing would have been nothing if not for the migraine.

Tif. I know you’re resistant. You live in a state where you can feel better and your symptoms can be reduced to a manageable state with a non-toxic treatment. Just saying...

He also lives in a state where it is more probable than an unvaxxed kid will sneeze on his steak boiling bags. He's doomed.

The rash hasn't bloomed yet, so we're hoping treating it aggressively at this stage will be preventative.

I also have a 25-year old scar on my shin that started bleeding three days ago for no known reason. That's infected, and as it's right over the bone I'm at risk for a bone infectoon...... which it treated with 6-8 weeks of IV antibiotics.

Basically I'm just a bucket full of winning right now.

You have autoimmune issues in your genes, IIRC. hell of a journey, isn’t it.

They gave me Valtrex without me realizing it. 25 year old me wasn’t capable of showing grace and confidence in front of an unusually attractive pharmacist that February evening.

Did you know that 75% of people with genital herpes contracted the disease from a partner who was not symptomatic at the time of transmission?

Mrs Tif sold Valtrex for two years, and i still remember that. I got 'valcyclovyr' today, which is the same drug, minus the branding.

A hernia from coughing (I thought) was more like pelvic bone region. The whole 'turn your head and cough' gag at the Dr office.

Now, I've heard of stress fractures of ribs from coughing, which would be more in keeping with side/lower back location of the pain. Is it only painful when you touch the skin in the area with any pressure? Or does simply breathing hurt?

Pubescent Shad had a very embarrassing moment related to this step in the physical about 23 years ago or so. Let's just say, attractive female physician + all of my brainpower on NOT getting..aroused = The small part of my brain that was still open stupidly misheard "caw" instead of "cough". Ya know...like a crow.
