Yeah, just teasing. My step-mom took mine out when I cut myself as a kid.

My grandfather took out my stiches the couple times I had them as a kid. But he was also retired family-medicine doctor.

Yeah when I got my carpal tunnel done they wanted me to come back to get my stitches out. I went back for the left wrist and they charged me a specialist visit copay to remove them. Learned that lesson. The whole system is broken.

My specialist copay is $50. And I had to drive like a half hour there one way, so it was just worth it.$30?Yeah when I got my carpal tunnel done they wanted me to come back to get my stitches out. Just had my vision checkup, and was told I could get readers for computer/tv/phone viewing, but it wasn’t entirely necessary yet. Figured I’d just buy the bullet and get some frames on my old insurance since it’s better than my wife’s. I’m officially old.

A shame, with the rising cost of ammo and all.

Mrs. F has a congenital vascular condition that nobody has ever been able to identify or really help her much with. Her torso and both arms have excess veins, essentially. It's something she has lived with all her life, but recently she's had some severe back problems and the doc's won't operate or give her painkiller injections unless they are more comfortable that they won't hit a vein and possible paralyze her.
So in a couple weeks we head to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, where they have a vascular clinic that may be able to help her with it. Intensive two day appointment with imaging and consultations. It kind of stinks that after not getting a vacation this year due to remodeling, we're using a ton of miles on the short turn around trip, but if she can get some help with this for the first time in her life, it's more than worth it.
Back in the 70s her parents were referred to plastics to help her. Nobody in Pittsburgh even really knew what to do to help her. It's remarkable the advancements and specializations that have developed since then. Even so, expectations are low, based on previous experience, but these are the top people in the world. If they can even just tell her something about it, that would be a win.

Thanks, guys. She's nervous that they're going to come back and not be able to help her like everyone else. Maybe that will be the case, who knows, but at least we will have exhausted all options.

If you like Thai food, visit Mango Thai on Broadway Ave. Assuming you're in Rochester.

So this Mayo clinic thing- got a call today, 2 days before the flight leaves, that the person who was doing the scheduling a week and a half ago was new and despite their best efforts, they can't get wifey in for the tests she needs on Monday. Uh.... we live 1,000 miles away, have got the travel arrangements, time off and child care in place and are leaving the day after tomorrow. So why don't you take this back to the drawing board and see how you can fit her in?

That's an odd wrench in the mix, usually those types of facilities are better at understanding and accommodating their patient's logistics. Good luck to you, Ronnie.

Thanks. We were a little surprised because this is the best clinic for this in America, and assume people come in from out of town all the time. Not panicking yet.

Mayo can be a bit odd though. one of my friends went up to Rochester this Summer for a whole battery of tests because he has severe nausea and no one could figure out why. after the visit he gets a call from them to make an appointment for a psychologist interview. it was going to be a 1 hour interview. they expected him to travel from Atlanta to Rochester just for this interview and they absolutely refused to do it by Zoom. I'm not sure what the final outcome was but he either didn't do it at all or convinced them to let him drive to Jacksonville for it.

I have no idea about this specific situation, but there is an enormous amount of red tape to conduct a virtual doctor visit where the patient and doctor are not in the same state. I’d assume somewhere like Mayo Clinic would have all their ducks in a row for that, but that doesn’t mean they do
Blackjack's Thread of Illness and Ailments
That's likely the problem. I recall from my health-law days that telemedicine across state lines is a tricky issue. Unless things have changed, I think either the doc has to be licensed in both states, or there has to be some sort of a reciprocity compact or agreement between the states involved.
