I am all that is man.

Perhaps it's an adenovirus and not a typical common cold.So I’m basically at the point where a head cold puts me on my ass for like 2 weeks. I’ve had cold before. I know they didn’t used to be a big deal. Now I can barely function. I get dizzy, nauseous, I can’t eat, I get the chills and I’m achy as all hell.
Is this just me getting old? Is this not normal?

It's probably lupus.

This is kind of my underlying question. Not necessarily lupus (even though I may have lupus), but I have an undiagnosed but acknowledged auto immune disorder. Wondering if it’s amplifying things, or if getting old is just a nightmare. It's probably lupus.

I was kidding, but it still sounds like something you should be talking to your PCP about. Unless I'm wrong, you're around the same age as I am, and those symptoms don't sound normal to me.

i have health records a mile long with UPenn. the literal message from the head of rheumatology was "you're not dying". which is actually SOP for rheums when there's not enough clinical data.

woke up on Monday with a noticeable lump on the side of my face. It wasn't sore or anything and didn't look like a pimple since it was well below the surface, so of course I freak out. I called my doc, they get me in for an appointment that afternoon. I went in thinking the worst, imaging a scenario where is gonna cost more money than what is stashed in my HSA and then some.
So what did they find? Ingrown hair, probably from dryshaving a spot that I missed over the weekend. Two days later, and it's almost gone.

one of my life’s great pleasures is digging out ingrown hairs from my face and neck. you blew a chance at glory by letting it be.

**** yes. I also love the clumps. When you have a bunch of hairs in one pore, and they just slide out like butter.Love this thread

I really would cause these on purpose if I knew how.

My thighs get quite a few ingrowns. More than anywhere on my body. They’re super easy to remove too, with a bit of a squeeze they pop right out. No idea why they form there so often.

My thighs also have a higher than usual number. Prime for picking them out while pooping

i've never had a diagnosed sinus issue. should i be feeling explicit sinus discomfort if there's a problem? i don't have that. i have mucus to spare, but i don't have that sort of weight in my sinuses that i'd expect. Is this a sinus issue? i also get this 2 or 3 times a year. same symptoms. non-viral. i'm thinking it's more likely one of my inflammatory flare ups, and the mucus is a result of my body going into attack mode.

I didn't pop or break it yet, but the antibiotics have really knocked it down a bunch.one of my life’s great pleasures is digging out ingrown hairs from my face and neck. you blew a chance at glory by letting it be.

Yes, in the shower, with a waterproof electric trimmer set to the lowest setting. That was the best method I was able to come up with. One of the hair-guide attachments for my trimmer is basically a plastic cage that covers the cutter from all sides. It's lowest setting is probably 1/4". I use that one because I do not want the trimmer to accidentally dig into anything down there. The trimmer is sufficient because I don't need that area to be shaved smooth or anything. I just need to weed-whack the hair back enough that it's not uncomfortable to sit on.Squat and swipe?

I've never had an ingrown hair (or nail) in my life. Is that not normal?

Me either; this conversation is lost on me.

Same, to my knowledge.

I developed ingrown toenails as a teenager on my big toes, to the point where I was squeezing pockets of pus out of the sides of the nails pretty much every day. I had the surgery where they cut down the sides of nails and then use acid to kill the nail matrix so that the nails are permanently narrowed. Worked like a charm with no problems since.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking of foot nails. I had them in my teens and 20s. Had a really infected one removed down to the root by a GP. Because it was infected it was removed without anesthetic. That ruined me for a long time. Luckily I seem to have grown out of that.
