I did a self diagnosis and my doctor confirmed that I have Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. Anyone deal with this? An elastic band on my elbow is helpful is pretty good at reminding me to keep my arm straight, but hoping it doesn't progress to a tendon surgery issue.

Yes. I wore a band for a couple weeks and iced and heated it. It took months to fix. I still feel it every once in a while and this was almost 3 years ago.

I was already on Percocets for it; it's been going on for probably 6 months, but was at first masked by having mono. That sounds crazy, but the truth.

It was probably actually caused by the mono...

That's certainly possible. I figured out, because I was resting the elbow too much on my desk at work.

Yeah, it really amped up the existing pain up and down the left side of my body.

That does sound like it could be mono related, then. I'd think damage from just resting the elbow would result in any neuropathy being more confined to just the arm itself.

Of course, it could just be alcoholic neuropathy.

I'm pretty sure I have a sports hernia aka core muscle injury. From researching, this is the "worst" type of hernia you can have because the only fix is surgery. The other type of hernia, the inguinal hernia, is the one that bulges out of the body. This one can potentially be pushed back into your body and kind of fixes itself. Surgery is not always required in this case.

The sports hernia version is a tear in the lower abs that can't really be fixed unless surgically repaired. The pain from this injury can make you believe you have a pulled groin. Pain down the inner thigh all the way up to the lower abs.

I have tried rehab on my own with ice/stretching/exercises/ and I took 2 months off all sports and did no running. Was hoping it would just go away. This 2 month stretch was nice with no pain and no impact on upper body weightlifting, stretching, walking, etc. The first day I tried to sprint again though, I played basketball after two months of rest, and I was back to square one. Now it hurts again to get in and out of the car, hurts to sprint, etc...I was hoping the rest would kind of resolve the problem so it was pretty frustrating to go back to square one the very first time I picked up physical activity. So many athletes are having this injury/surgery lately I guess it's pretty common. I have a bunch of travel and stuff planned for the fall/winter so I'm going to hold off on a dr visit until January.

Is waiting until January a health benefits thing?

Why wait?

No it's simply a "I don't have time for surgery or rest/rehab thing" between now and January combined with the fact that after this type of surgery you typically are not allowed to lift anything over a certain weight for many weeks or you risk re-tearing. My schedule kind of dictates that if I'm going to be on the shelf or limited at all it would be better in January than Oct, Nov, Dec.

Athletes play through these injuries all the time and postpone/delay surgery so it's not a huge deal. Brooks Orpik played through 2 of them a few years ago. Joe Hayden (Steelers/Browns) played all season last year with one. He said that's why he stunk last year...his quick twitch movement and ability to make sharp cuts was limited.

I took a look at a few of the previous pages and saw a bunch of comments about dental work. I've been through so much I thought I'd share just in case this helps anybody else.

When I was in my early 20s I went to get my bottom 2 wisdom teeth extracted. No pain, no real problems, but apparently enough pushing on my back molars that eventually (I was told) they would push all my lower teeth around. Top 2 wisdom teeth were left in because they were OK. Very good oral surgeon (specialist), expensive area, I have good insurance, etc....nothing shady or alarming about any of this.

Extraction day comes, I get put to sleep, I wake up 2 or 3 times during the procedure but no big deal, I close my eyes and out like a light seconds later. Eventually I'm woken up for good and outside of a little soreness and numbness I'm OK. Later that night I find it a bit strange that I'm still numb from the procedure. The left side of my chin, my lower lip (left side only) are all still numb as if I had just been given novocaine. I figure this is probably normal because they had to really numb that area to extract. Fast forward another day and still numb. Starting to panic a bit now and call the Dr. I go in later that day for a visit and he tells me the roots of my wisdom teeth were intertwined and wrapped all around the nerves in my jaw. He said this happens from time to time, where the nerves get aggravated and they take some time to recover. He asks me to come back in a few days to see if there is any improvement.

I go in a few days later after no improvement. Lower left lip and left side of chin near soul patch and goatee area still 100% numb. He told me it could take up to 6 months for things to be back to 100%. I think I had one more follow up visit with no more improvement and then never went to see the guy ever again. I'm told that after 6 months nerves no longer heal themselves so whatever progress you make between 0-6 months is all you are going to get. As you can imagine I was doing all sorts of research online. Who else has had this. Can I have surgery to fix this? What are other people experiencing?

So this is called Paresthesia and apparently happens in like less than 1% of people who get their wisdom teeth extracted. I was unlucky. I also learned after the fact that the older you are when you get your wisdom teeth taken out, the more at risk you are. When you are in your teens your roots/nerves haven't become all intertwined yet. I also learned that most of the time the dr will see via X-ray that your wisdom teeth and roots are all intertwined and then recommend you not move forward with the procedure as the risk is greater than the reward. So I was unlucky that this happened but also a bit frustrated that the dr could have deemed this to be too risky and just called it off.

It took a few months but I finally went from "completely numb" to tingling sensation/hyper sensitive in that area. It's like 75% normal now. That's where I'm at today like 10+ years later, no improvement after 3 or 4 months. From what I was able to gather online, there are a lot of people that have had much worse experiences. The fact that I recovered to like 75% is great all things considered. There are people who have this happen and they stay 100% numb forever. It has driven some to depression and to reliance on various prescription medication addiction.

I had a month or two of that totally numb feeling and it was miserable. It was hard to focus or think about anything else. It was hard to eat, hard to talk. The first month or so, you could have taken a knife to my lip or chin and I wouldn't have felt it at all.

Now, a light touch sends a bit of an electrical shockwave feeling through the entire area. "Tingly" is how I refer to it. It sounds worse than it is. It's not painful at all just a tad annoying. People who have had their nerves completely severed have permanent numbness unless they have surgery to fix the nerve (sometimes this works, sometimes this doesn't, and they have the numbness forever). Some people get it really bad and their tongue goes numb forever. Impacts speech, eating, etc....this sounds truly awful. Not exactly breaking news here but nerve damage is no joke. Not much they can do to fix it or speed up recovery if you have an issue.

More dental stuff to add after reading previous pages of posts:

I too went like 6 years in between dental visits. No real reason other than the fact that I had no pain, I hated the dentist, I had bad dental experiences before, and was procrastinating. Even if you have no pain you can still have cavities. When I finally went to the dentist after my hiatus I had 3 cavities that needed to be addressed. Cavities/fillings are easy to fix and cheap. Unfortunately a cavity that sits in your tooth for too long works its way to the pulp/nerve area of the tooth and becomes a root canal situation.

A $200 cavity filling that takes 15 minutes to fix turns into a $2,500 root canal that takes 3 30-60 minute visits to fix. By just going in and getting it over with you could potentially save yourself a lot of time and money. I'll never go that long again between dental visits.

Most dental insurance isn't great (not as good as medical) and work on 1 tooth can max out your benefits for the year. I spent about $6,000 cash AFTER INSURANCE on three root canals. The root canal procedure is about 1k. The tooth prep and crown prep is about $500. The porcelain crown they put on top of your root canaled tooth is about 1k. $2500 on one tooth just that easily. If I had gone to the dentist earlier and caught those cavities before they grew, I would have spent maybe a few hundred dollars out of pocket for all that work.

Yeah, been a pretty **** week for my wife. She was not selected first wave at Chatham for her DPT program on Tuesday, was flatly rejected by Pitt on Wednesday, found out her Mom has cancer (again) on Thursday. Frankly, I'm scared to go home today.

10 days ago my oldest son woke up in the middle of the night puking. It was a 24 hr thing. 5 days later, my wife had the same thing. Today, I'm barfing my brains out. I guess my youngest is next in 5 days. At least we're getting it out of the way before the holidays.

Ouch. One of the most memorable Christmases we've had is:

December 21: Daughter gets stomach bug.
December 22/23: Wife and I get it
December 25: We are feeling better...so we travel to NY (in-laws) for Christmas
December 26: Sitting at dinner. Sister-in-law disappears. Mother-in-law hurriedly gets up from table. Wife's grandmother shortly after.

Long story short, the two bathrooms in that house were not nearly enough. It was a nightmare

Weird night last night. I felt fine when I got home, around 6:30. However, by 7:15, I could tell I was having a hard time focusing on what I was doing. Shortly after, I started to get the chills extremely bad, to the point where I was wearing warm clothes, under three blankets, and laying on my wife's heating pad. Stomach was upset too, but no actual projectile stuff. I had the overwhelming urge to go to sleep, which I did at 9. Woke up at 5:30 feeling very well-rested and much better this morning.

This ever happen to anyone else? I went to a new place for lunch yesterday, wondering if something disagreed with me.

Could be the food, could be flu. Good thing is you woke up fine.

When I came down with the camplyobactor bacteria last year, the symptoms were similar. I also had liquid butt like crazy.
