Blackjack's Thread of Illness and Ailments

Postby mac5155 » Wed Jan 24, 2018 9:32 pm

I went for my (second) sleep study last night, for sleep apnea.
What's this experience like? I'm reasonably sure I'm apneic, and have been torturing Mrs Tif for years by not even attempting to get this sorted out.
You get about 14 sensors placed all around your head. 4 or so on your upper chest. 1 on each leg. An oxygen hose looking thing on your nose. Then you are told to go to sleep. Good luck lol. Luckily I have zero problem falling asleep. Then they wake u up at 530 and disconnect you from the wires and try to have a long conversation.

I woke up this morning with tingling in the tip of my index and middle fingers on my right hand. Now the whole hand feels like it's asleep. Such hoots.

inflamed nerve endings can cause neuropathy. rheumatoid arthritis as well.

so while it's probably not lupus, you do have a history of autoimmune issues in the family, so maybe that's a starting point.

...though i don't know if you were just venting or you wanted a randy on the web giving you unreliable advice.

I think shmengy missed his calling as a doctor.
I could be one of the following:

Rheumatologist
Dermatologist

...because neither is on the hook to actually fix anything, and can basically shrug their shoulders and say, "it's forever. call me when you're dying".

Let me know what you come up with. My index finger gets severe tingling on occasion to the point of being painful sometimes.

I've just assumed carpal tunnel, but who knows.

It gets better. About a hand width up my forearm from my wrist, it now feels like someone punched or elbowed me directly on the bone.

At this rate, I expect my arm will just detach sometime around dinner tonight.

I defer to Dr. Shmenguin, but it definitely sounds like carpal tunnel.

Do you sleep with your arm under your head?

CPAP...no big deal. And you'll feel markedly better. Totally worth it.
What is problematic: the requirement by your insurance company you attend a pulmonologist on a twice yearly basis so he/she can collect a tier-one co-pay.

Below is a transcript of my recent $45.00 visit

Doc: Heeeyyyyy, good to see you again, Mr. Staw- z-ak. How're you doing?
Me: Good. Still sleeping much better, just like last time, and the time before that, and the time before that.
Doc: Good! Good!
(Doc notices Penguins jacket, proceeds to re-enact last years January visit)
Doc: You're a hockey fan!
Me: Yup. Yup.
Doc: Nice...Nice.
Awkward silence
Doc: Well, good to see you again, Mr. ...
Me: Same here, Doc.
Doc: See you in six months!
(pumps my hand vigorously)
Me: Looking forward to it.
