meow's description is quite accurate.

Last November I fell on the ice trying to step around a curling stone. Being that I'm not the most graceful person, I sidestepped the stone in my path, but in the meantime managed to get caught up in my own feet. Never had a chance to brace for impact or tuck into the fall and hit ribs first. Popping 800's of ibuprofen throughout the day kinda helped but not really. It only took the pain from a 9 down to a 7. Sleep sucked for at least a week or so. I don't have a recliner, so I propped myself into the corner of my sectional. The only issue with that was having to push from the corner would still hurt, but I guess it was better than accidentally rolling onto the bad side.

Then one day it went away like it never happened.

Thanks, everyone! I'm a week in today and the first 3 days weren't bad at all, just a little tender. The last 4 have been... very uncomfortable.

Had minor surgery yesterday to remove a cyst from my upper abdomen. I couldn't see the procedure, but the doctor said it was around the size of a walnut. He used an electrocauterization tool to remove a lot of it, and it's a little weird to hear your own flesh sizzle.

I’ve shared my vasectomy horror story.

Not pleasant.

Had my vas about a month ago. Not bad other than the weird feeling they were pulling various tubes in and out of my tea bag the whole time.

Man...I get a hollow feeling just thinking about it.

Got there first thing in the morning. Stripped down and had the sheet draped over. Doc comes in carrying a coffee, looks under the sheet...while still holding coffee.
Gets out the needle and proceeds to inject the local in three different locations on the apple bag...”you may feel a pinch.” Really a needle piercing the jewels three times may cause a pinch?!?!

Disappears while the local is supposedly doing its job.

I say “supposedly” to set you up for the next part.

He and a cute nurse come back into the room.

They take up the catcher stance at the base of the examining table and are just chitchatting between themselves about their weekend.

Doc says “you may feel some tugging.” You or her Doc? Anyway, he applies some tension to stretch out the target area and begins to apply the scalpel to scrotum. And, I’m not remotely numb in that spot yet.

Cold steel on sac.

I want to jump up but am terrified I will cause the scalpel to go deeper and do serious damage.

“Hmm, not numb yet? You must have a rogue nerve.” And then injected three more shots of local into the marbles.

Ok, good to go now. Feel the tugging on the tubes which gives a little queasy feeling in the pit of your stomach which is reminiscent of being lightly grazed in the balls.

Doc says no action for a few days. Ice the boys down with a bag of peas and take it easy with no heavy lifting.

After the wait period, I decide to clean out the pipes in the shower for a test run.

Nobody explains to you that it might resemble a leper coughing up a lung your first time after the procedure...but it did. IT DID!!!

The end. Thankfully no grapefruit sized swelling or discoloring, which was nice.

Oh, I forgot to mention the smell of burning flesh as they cauterized the tubes.

Hmm. My procedure was nearly identical to yours. My nurse was an absolute missile. Like. A rocket worthy of going to Mars. When the scalpel touched my Not numb bean bag, I said “hold up doc.” He fired like six more pumps of anesthetic in there.

Did they not give you a Valium for beforehand?

I need to thank Mrs. Franchise more often for getting her tubes tied while they were in there for her last C-Section.

Yeah they're still swimming dodints.

I'm not sure that "we found that whiskey kills everything" is a good thing for something that you put in your body.

... But that's the way I'm going to choose to interpret it. Kanpai!

Do you ever wake up with soul crushing doubt? For me it wears off after an hour or so. Only happens when I wake up abnormally early. It must be a form of anxiety or something. I wonder if it's common. It's like I use logic and reason to justify pursuits and actions, but when I wake up early those shields are not deployed yet and I am completely weak and vulnerable against self-doubt. The reassurances come back subconsciously through the morning but it's a very bad feeling. I have always been like this in adulthood.

I experience this sometimes, but for me it happens late at night. Mornings are generally a peaceful time for me.

Every morning for the last four years (minus the blissful five months this spring/summer, when I worked from home), as I am getting ready, I have this internal dialogue about putting my notice in at work. This is usually preceded by a bout of doubt. Like, "Am I really a good leader/manager? Did I handle this situation properly?"
