those that have canna bulbs, do you really rip these out every year?

Anyone have any tips on dealing with moles or gophers? (None of you em-effers send me anything Caddyshack) We apply the standard repellent stuff you get at Home Depot, but it only seems to work for a few days. Our yard has half a dozen piles of dirt.

My neighbor gave me some last year,, they grew beautifully, and I ripped them out at the end of the year. I stored incorrectly and ruined them and they didn't come back up.

I'd say try digging up half and putting a heavy layer of mulch (6" or so) on the other half and see what happens.

We're zone 6 and I think they're cold hardy to zone 7 or 8

One thing I thought of with our impending move next year is my (finally) productive blueberry bushes. I guess I'll attempt to move them, as weird as that sounds.

Our house was built in a new development in 2007, and when we bought it, I only had about 1/2 of the backyard sodded. I left the rest natural, much to the chagrin of my neighbors. I really didn't want to mow, fertilize, or irrigate any more lawn. I really wished I left all of it natural, as that bit has tons of birds, rabbits, and is a great dumping ground for trimmed bushes and other lawn detritus. That's where my blueberry bushes are, and I'm sure whoever buys the house would have the land cleared ASAP and turn my blueberry bushes into mulch.

When we bought the house here in Latrobe a few years ago we moved our blueberry bushes from the front yard to the back, and they've been doing well. Not as drastic as what you're doing but there is hope.

Just filled one of those 17 gallon keg tubs about 3/4 of the way with peppers, tomatoes, tomatillos, and eggplants. I had stopped taking care of the eggplants about 2 months ago and the whole area was overgrown by weeds, lo and behold there's about 20 good ones plus a whole bunch of recent buds I had to throw away.

That happened to me last year! We had a roof done, and the jabronis dropped a bunch of tarps on my grape tomato plants in July. I forgot about them, and they recovered and I had tomatoes until about this time last year. Pretty cool.

**** that. Our township will take them bagged or just at the curb (vac truck). I use the leaf blower to get them all along the fence, then rake them onto a massive tarp and drag it to the curb. Never bagging another leaf ever again.

After three rainy weekends, it was nice to get out and mulch the leaves. Still probably have at least another week or two before all of the leaves are down, though. I'd say my silver maples are about 75% dropped and my Norway maple 50%.

I have noticed, this spring I cut probably 12 "tree of heaven". This year I have substantially less leaves.

Still have 10% of a silver maple, a Bradford pear, and our neighbors two big oak trees to go. Not to mention the bushes on both sides of the house that lose their leaves.

My lawn service came out Friday to do fall cleanup. They take away all the leaves and sticks, but no mow. That wind storm came Friday night and caused the maple to absolutely **** the rest of its leaves. You'd have no idea that they came and did work Friday. If they had come even a day or two later the yard would look great and I wouldn't have to pay them to come back for the rest of the year. Bad luck I guess.
