The tulips in my wife’s flower garden have been booming, too. This shot is a little old, but you get the idea

Image

I wish tulips lasted all year long, because the color we have in the garden right now is terrific. I have no idea what they’re called, but the flowers that we had last year grew so far out that they suffocated smaller flowers next to them and killed the grass outside of the garden. I pulled every one of those bulbs in the winter.

I am retired and pretty anal about my yard. Not much to do but yard work and old car maintenance. Cut my yard today for the third time this year. Did a diamond cut on the front.

Looks good. Your season is way ahead of us. Daffodils and hyacinth are just now in full bloom here. Tulips are just starting to get buds.

I would happily pave over my lawn if I could. I don't like it and don't like mowing it.

Our early azaleas are finishing up, which means spring is nearly over and summer is here. I have two maverick azalea bushes that don't bloom into late May, so that's always weird.

Strawberry season is in full swing, and they are pretty good this year. Peaches are right around the corner...

Astro turf???

I seriously just googled prices. Alas, I think it's too expensive.

Due to the shade provided by my big maple trees—which I also don't like—my lawn is being taken over by moss. I'm hoping the moss eventually displaces all of the grass entirely.

Yeah, trees and the leaves are a pain in the arse. I had three large ones removed from my yard. An oak and two maples. Best thing I did in my yard.

If you want confirmation that it's time to lose weight, just hop on to the ol' riding mower for an hour and take a bumpy ride.

Funny, our hyacinths are basically all gone now. They bloomed real early and started dying off a few weeks ago.

I purchased most of our tulip bulbs from American Meadows, who I found out also supplies Home Depot with bulbs. The others with bright purple coloring were actually purchased on eBay from China. And they look amazing.

I've tried tulips several times but the chipmunks eat or steal the bulbs so I gave up.

I've had great luck with all kinds of bulbs from

https://www.johnscheepers.com/

or if you want to go big, their wholesale site:

Yep, chipmunks and squirrels love tulips. Also need to be careful to plant them in a well-drained, loamy soil or they will rot. Heavy clay is bad news.

Was here too. Mound beds with lots of composted cow manure dug/tilled in is the answer to that.

My flowers up front are popping up so the deer ought to be around to eat them any minute now.

If you’ve got clay soil, dig down deep and replace it with good soil.

That made me think of John Goodman's character in Arachnophobia when he's talking about how to "fix" rotten wood. "Tear our bad wood. Put in good wood."

I used to have a big deer problem with them eating shrubs and flowers constantly. I tried many things that either did not work or made the outside of my house smell like a garbage dump. I found this stuff at Amazon that has a minty smell and it keeps the deer away. Not sure how, but it works.
