A friend is managing a community garden so I got a plot this year. There's some communal perennials that are part of the garden that make it a pretty great place to have a plot.

Picked some mint leaves today and made some iced green mint tea. Really good.

Threat of frost has passed for this region.

Temps are starting to warm nicely...for the most part. Could be a bit warmer.

Just try to make sure they don't get more than an inch of water per week.

Hey Mr TrueGreen, clover's more drought resistant than this "grass" stuff you keep going on about, so there.

Sounds like it's going to be a hot dry summer. 19-23 days of 90+ degrees.

I have some azaleas and other small bushes in front of my house that have been dying off in the last couple years. I think this is the summer I tear them out and replace with another nice flowering bush, does anyone have any suggestions on any type of bush that would look nice?

There was a representative from Scott's driving around my neighborhood this past weekend, and he stopped to try and sell me on their services. I must have told him four times that I have a year's worth of lawn maintenance stuff and I prefer doing my own work. He was very close to being told to get the F off my property.

We got the scotts service to treat the weeds this year. Moving forward ill probably not use it after this year once the yard is under control

Ho much did it cost, if you don't mind me asking? It may be a cheaper option for me than doing it all myself...

That's insane. You can buy the same/similar chemicals they use themselves along with a sprayer for considerably less money (which is what I did).

I tried to do the fertilizing and weed protection on my own, but could never keep up with it and would wind up spending almost as much as what I am paying Natural Lawn to do it plus they are also aerating and overseeding.

I don't want to start a new thread, so I'm hoping this fits here, given that my deck is an extension of my garden...

I plan on putting a new coat of semi-transparent Olympic stain on my deck tomorrow morning. I don't have a pressure washer to clean it off. Will just a broom and a hose do the trick? Should I buy a treatment chemical to clean the deck before staining? How much time should lapse between staining and putting furniture on it?

Hmm, I don't really do plants like that. I like feature trees and smaller stuff in beds that are not overcrowded and maybe have some nice large rocks. Not sure of a good rhodo/azalea alternative. There're some interesting things within those families I'm sure you can check out at a landscaping place, but they all look pretty similar to me.

Edit: Maybe Hyndrangeas?

As for us, we are taking out 3 large bushes and a small evergreen tree this weekend, root stumps and all. Here's hoping I don't die on Sunday.
