We all did. They lost the feed right as it was about to land. Wasn't there, feed dropped, then feed returned and it was landed.

So I watched today, can someone ELI5 how NASA is involved here? Were the astronauts space X employees or were they NASA Astronauts? Was any of this government funded or was it just government "approved" (or neither?)

NASA contracted SpaceX and Boeing to fly a certain number of manned missions in the next several years. Astronauts were NASA, but their suits were SpaceX.

Apparently there was a very bright fireball visible from Western PA east to NJ and south into northern Virginia. Sonic boom and everything. Happened around 10:24 PM. Hate missing these.

SpaceX tonight successfully launched another batch of 60 Starlink internet satellites into low Earth orbit. The first stage booster was flying for the fifth time and made a successful landing on the Just Read the Instructions droneship. SpaceX doesn't have any missions from Vandenberg for a while, so it towed that ship from the Pacific to the Atlantic in order to supplement the Of Course I Still Love You droneship, which just got back into Port Canaveral after last weekend's DM-2 mission for NASA. It's the first time SpaceX has used both landing ships in the Atlantic for operational missions. At some point SpaceX will be adding at least one more droneship because heavier payloads on the Falcon Heavy would require three at-sea landings in order to recover every core.

I was watching the launch stream last night, and was confused by the announcer's reading of the drone ships' names. I missed the first part of the explanation, so I was really confused by a rocket company not reading the instructions

The SpaceX droneships are named after spaceships in Iain M. Banks' "Culture" series of sci-fi novels. Ships in that universe have rather creative names. Elon tweeted last year that the third droneship will be named " A Shortfall of Gravitas." Considering what SpaceX does, some good names from the Culture universe for a fourth droneship would be "Funny, It Worked Last Time....," "You'll Clean That Up Before You Leave," and "Lightly Seared On The Reality Grill."

Yes. Splashdown will be off the coast of Florida.

Originally, SpaceX had wanted to use the SuperDraco thrusters on the Crew Dragon to do propulsive landings. NASA basically nixed that because they thought it was too risky, and there were also technical issues with figuring out how to do landing legs with the heat shield. So they went to conventional parachutes and an ocean splashdown. SpaceX is actually the only crew vehicle that is doing ocean landings. The Soyuz has always come down on land, the Chinese manned vehicles come down on land, and so will the Boeing Starliner.
