Is there a mission for this flight other than testing the rocket?
Just testing.

Boosters landed. Second stage in parking orbit. Unclear whether core landed successfully.

I need to be careful, because days like this I'm the type of person that can impulsively end up on the SpaceX store ordering $150 worth of hats and t-shirts.

Even if the center core didn't make it, that has to be considered a successful first launch. In particular, the vehicle made it through all of the events where if anything were to have gone wrong, it probably would have gone wrong—namely liftoff, max-Q, and booster separation.

View from SpaceX Launch Control. Apparently, there is a car in orbit around Earth.

The live stream from the roadster is offering some spectacular views of the Earth. I think it's over the Pacific right now. The views of the Roadster with the Earth slowly rotating underneath is probably the best PR material a car company could ever ask for. The only problem is that Tesla doesn't make the Roadster anymore. Elon should launched a current model like a Model S or Model 3.

They are currently taking deposits on the new Tesla Roadster, to be released in 2020.

Core missed the boat and splashed.
Musk said at the post-launch press conference that the core was supposed to do a three-engine landing burn onto the drone ship, but it looks like the outer two engines might have run out of TEA-TEB ignition fluid, because they didn't ignite for the landing. It hit the water at something like 300 mph, which I imagine would have made one heck of a splash!

Let's hope it missed the drone ship entirely, because otherwise I think OCISLY is going to need some buffing out.

Reports that SpaceX has conducted the trans-Mars injection burn to send the Roadster towards Mars. Part of this mission was a test of the second stage's ability to conduct an extended coast and still be able to relight and maneuver. That's why we got many hours of the Roadster orbiting the Earth (with the great views). The ability to conduct an extended second-stage coast would be useful to certain missions, including some military missions.

I wasn't expecting the double landing, I think I may have damaged my lungs gasping when I saw them in the same window

I don't think we truly understand how monumental this is.
