Replacing Roccos analysis with a tweet is a perfect analogy for our modern world.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/02/n ... ilton.htmlPirates chairman Bob Nutting spoke to reporters about the next CBA, writes Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. As a low revenue club, access to talent is the team’s top concern. In the past, they used large amateur budgets to build their current contending roster. The most recent CBA closed off these avenues of spending. Further, the club’s recent success has compounded the issue since they receive lower draft picks and budgets for winning. Nutting declined to comment on specifics. Nutting also reiterated that the club will “try to find an opportunity” to extend Andrew McCutchen.

Access to talent is apparently also a concern for KtK.

In a league full of stupidity, draft and international spending pools being dictated by on-field success is easily the dumbest thing ever concocted by MLB.

this gentleman and a friend were talking about the cba, the draft, the international spending, etc. last night.
what is interesting about this upcoming CBA negotation isn't the players vs. owners stuff, it is the owners vs. owners stuff. the small market teams have to fight for better draft rules and better international signing rules. as it stands right now, it is very hard for the pirates to sustain success.

Cole is clearly not a dutiful Pirates fan.

I fully understand they don't have to offer him any more than that, but would it have really killed them to give him a modest bump in light of how integral he is to their long-term success? Not just on the field, but he's clearly loved and respected in the clubhouse. To not even give him a decent raise strikes me as low-class.
I'm not and never really have been a "Pirates are cheap" complainer, but that is lame.

If Cole wants to sign a contract extension and get paid more this year he's more than welcome to tell Scott Boras to negotiate one for him.Cole said club officials explained their initial offer was $538,000 because a $7,000 raise is the maximum allowed under the team's salary system for players who are not eligible for arbitration.
Any “zero-to-three” player — that is, one who has less than three years' service time in the majors — must accept whatever contract his team extends to him. If the player refuses to sign it, the contract can be imposed at a lower rate.

I think this story goes one of three ways.
1) Clickbait
2) Boras is feeding baloney to Cole.
3) Cole doesn't understand the situation.

Cole is also misrepresenting salary and bonus to try and say he's getting a pay cut. Sign an extension or shut up.

I am admittedly not an expert on the ins and outs of contracts in baseball, so I likely misunderstood. Could he theoretically have gone to Boras and told him to ask for an extension at a normal league salary? Or is that off the table because he is in that 0-3 group? Because if so, it's weird for him to be airing the dirty laundry like that.

Your just taking the bait. Cole is creating bad blood where there shouldn't be any and we can rule out an extension at this point. As far as the contract situation, Rocco's post sums it up.Cole is also misrepresenting salary and bonus to try and say he's getting a pay cut. Sign an extension or shut up.
