I'll always remember the day the Steelers drafted Polamalu, it was also my wedding day. Been a fast 12 years.

Thank you Polamalu for retiring before it was way past time to do so. I enjoyed his time with the team. In his prime he was the best defensive player in the league (IMO).

I'm glad Troy retired instead of trying to hang on for one more season. Great player, greater person.

Heard Jim Wexell on DVE this morning. After informing the Steelers he would be retiring Troy personally called Wexell to tell him the news. Troy won't be having a press conference and apparently is none too thrilled about how things went down because he believes he can still play and the Steelers management made his play last season seem worse than it really was and basically forced him out. He's not angry or holding a grudge, just doesn't feel it was completely on his terms.
The one real interesting bit from the interview is that Troy called Dick LeBeau to ask his opinion on his play last season and if he thought he could still play in the league. LeBeau of course told him that he's not what he once was, but he could still be a valuable contributor in the NFL. This is why Dick LeBeau is no longer the Steelers defensive coordinator.

He was classy, humble and soft-spoken through it all...while being at the top of his game and the top of the league.
I just wish more players would follow his lead.

Always a sad day when your favorite player retires, regardless of it being the right decision. I had sorta lost interest in football after moving to CA, but Troy lit the fire again.
Thank you, Troy.

I like AB and really have no problems with him as a person or his antics, and while I get his reasoning behind doing this, he's barking up the wrong tree with the wrong organization looking for a new deal while his current contract has 3 years remaining.

this is probably an irrational pet peeve but this whole renegotiation/hold out stuff is very annoying. he signed a six year deal. he didnt have to sign the terms and the length, but everyone agreed to the contract. it is your employment contract. play out the terms, if your play at the end warrants an increase, good for you. i understand that anything can happen in terms of injury/loss of skill/etc so he is trying to make hay while he can, but maybe he shouldnt have signed a six year contract if he thought he was going to be this good.

I have less of a problem with this in the NFL, because the players don't have guaranteed contracts. The Steelers could cut him tomorrow if they wanted to(with whatever dead money hitting the cap). So with that being the case I can understand why a player would want to get the most money they can in the shortest amount of time because they could be discarded at the drop of a dime.
I also think he's one of the few who have a legit beef that they should be getting paid more money.

Too bad, he signed a contract, live with it or retire.

In a world without guaranteed contracts, I disagree. Now if people want to blame the NFLPA for agreeing to this framework, that's a different story.Too bad, he signed a contract, live with it or retire.

I wonder how many of the yinzers calling into the Fan saying that "a contract is a contract" work for their local 157 of the USW?
