Wow. Euro has Ian making landfall right around Myrtle as a Cat 2. This storm just won't quit.

How they gonna get anything to Sanibel without helos or boats, did I hear the causeway is it, and it's gone?

Very well done video showing the storm surge. Its simplicity speaks volumes:

They can receive calls but cannot make any outgoing calls, texts, and they don't expect to have any power for a day or two. My dad had set up some flood barriers at his doorways and those worked well so he was happy with himself. Apparently they had water come up to their house and lots of trees are down. They still haven't been able to inspect the damage and my dad isn't really able to get up on the roof anymore so who knows how bad it is. But, they're safe and have plenty of supplies. I wouldn't be surprised if the next time they get a hurricane, they evacuate regardless of the orders.
Any more updates.

The cell service is very spotty and they still are without power. We’ve been trying to call to check in but mostly get the voicemail. My sister was finally able to connect with them again this morning. They’re hanging in there. The roads leading to their house are still covered with debris and trees so they’re sort of stuck for now. They are planning on walking to a church friend’s assisted living home which has a generator so they can charge their devices. They seem to be good but would be a lot better with power obviously. Thanks for asking

Where are you guys again? Close to the coast?

Yes, we are now in Conway, just north of Myrtle Beach.

Three piers along the coast were damaged already btw.

Gotcha, good luck, hopefully the power comes back relatively early in the weekend.

Pawley's Island had to have taken a pretty rough hit, being just north of landfall.

Thanks. Seems to be quieting down now. Really didn't think it would be much of anything, and turned out to be a Cat 1 with 80+ mph winds. We had gusts here at 60 mph.

This is the first time I can remember a hurricane basically reforming to hit again. Was Andrew like that? JFC the destruction this storm has brought to several states is insane.

That's pretty common, usually from Gulf to Atlantic hurricanes or vice versa. I vaguely remember Floyd bouncing off the coast and hitting NC harder than it hit SC, with next to no warning.

But we're going to get more and more of these with how warm the water is into late October.

Who could have foreseen this?

Yes, the Gulf to Atlantic second landfall in the Carolinas is pretty common. Ditto for Atlantic to Gulf (with second landfall usually somewhere on Gulf Coast).

We have had about three quarters of an inch overnight, but the wind is definitely picking up. Great day for our son's birthday party

Really Chaps your ass looking at the Monday - Friday forecast next week, but at least my house isn't floating away or gone.

Yes, this is a particularly brutal example of a shitty weekend followed by a gorgeous fall week.

No Indian summer, but getting an extended fall it looks like (well into December).

Also, I think the common axiom about loving fall is stupid. Fall sucks, it’s cold, wet and dark.
